  • I had only ever encountered this bug when playing Fallout, but it looks as though it's also invaded Skyrim. After the battle for Whiterun, the enemy retreated or died, and I was told to meet with the Jarl. I did. Then, when I tried to fast travel to another location, I discovered I was unable, and the words "fast travel is currently unavailable from this location" appeared. I was not overencumbered, in combat, jumping, falling, in a building, dragging a corpse, or anything that, in normal gameplay, would prevent me from fast traveling. I loaded a previous save, and discovered that as soon as I won the battle for Whiterun, fast travel became unavailable. Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to start using fast travel again?

    • It likely just relates to that location for that instance. I haven't done that quest in a long time so I might have the answer to this and not know it - Have you completed the quest yet? I know you said you completed the battle, not sure if it's out of your log though. If it isn't, that's likely the problem.

If you have, just leaving the city and then fast traveling should allow the city itself to reload and reenable fast traveling.

    • If you are in a city that still looks like it's in war then it becomes unavailable, I'm pretty sure. Try leaving the city. If not, then run to where you need to go and try to Fast travel next time, you need to go somewhere. Or just don't use fast travel, the roads of Skyrim are a fun experience in many cases.

    • I took Crusader's advice and rode Shadowmere a ways south. After Whiterun was out of sight, fast travel became available again. I had no further problems with using fast travel, and Whiterun was restored to its antebellum self, albeit with some Imperial-related dialogue. ¬†All hail the Emperor, who I killed.

    • If you're inside a building, then you can't fast travel. After certain battle quests, the function will not be available. Looks like you found a good solution though.

    • For anyone who is still wondering, when I had this bug, I typed player.moveto 000198ba into the console and it teleported me to tullius. After that I was able to fast travel just fine
