Craglorn, introduced in Update 1.
Update 1 is the first major update for The Elder Scrolls Online represented as game version 1.1.2 on PC/Mac release on May 22, 2014. It introduced the adventure zone of Craglorn,[note 1] and the first trials Hel Ra Citadel and the Aetherian Archive as well as their associated quests, rewards, leaderboards, and the trials of the week. It also introduced changes to the veteran rank system, dungeon chests, player-versus-player (PvP) content in Cyrodiil, various fixes and improvements, and added the death recap.
Changes[]
Craglorn[]
Craglorn was introduced as an adventure zone intended for groups of four characters at veteran rank 10 or higher, although content in the zone could be started regardless of rank.[note 2] The zone was made to be accessible through "The Star-Gazers" quest in Elden Root, Mournhold, and Wayrest, respective to the character's alliance.
Trials[]
Hel Ra Citadel, one of the first trials.
Two trials were added within Craglorn, Hel Ra Citadel and the Aetherian Archive, and are intended for groups of 12 at veteran rank 10 or higher, although they can be entered by any character at any time. Groups in a trial instance have only 36 resurrections between all group members who cannot resurrect if there are no remaining souls in the soul reservoir. The trial fails if all group members die with no remaining resurrections.[note 3]
Supplementing trials are leaderboards to compare best times between groups within trials and includes a top 100 list and notification when friends and guild members beat previous times. The time a group completed a trial is represented by a score (higher is faster). Every week, a different trial will be featured as the trial of the week with its own leaderboard that is cleared when the new week begins.
Veteran ranks[]
The maximum veteran rank was increased to 12 and the amount of experience earned from killing enemies increased by more than double.
Dungeon chests[]
Chests inside dungeons (only within instanced locations, not public locations) have been changed to be different for each player that opens the chest. The total number of chests in a dungeon was also reduced to two that appear in random locations.
Death recap[]
An example of a death recap.
The death recap was added after a character dies to show the most recent sources of damage they took before death, how much damage they took from each source, and general tips on how to avoid death in combat.
Cyrodiil[]
The two-week Celarus campaign was introduced with reduced end-of-campaign rewards compared to 90-day campaigns. Additionally, all monsters were made to be veteran rank 5, the amount of experience awarded for killing enemy players was doubled, the amount of experience awarded for completing bounty quests at the mission boards was increased, and an underdog bonus was added; if one alliance is outnumbered in a campaign as determined by population samples over several days, that alliance will receive a scoring bonus and character in that alliance will earn more alliance points.
Fixes and improvements[]
Fixes and improvements were made for:
- PvP content in Cyrodiil
- Art and animation, including armor and effects
- Environmental objects, including monsters
- Combat and gameplay, including for all classes and weapons, light armor, soul magic, vampires, werewolves, Fighters and Mages Guild, Undaunted, assault and support skills, item sets, and mounts
- Crafting and economy, including for all crafting skills
- Dungeons and group content, including normal and veteran group dungeons, and public dungeons
- Exploration and itemization, including fishing
- Miscellaneous features
- Quests, including main quests, zone quests, side quests, and faction quests
- User interface, including for PvP content, chat, crafting, gameplay, guild trading, the heads-up display, itemization, maps, and tooltips
Trivia[]
- The Celarus campaign added to Cyrodiil in this update is a reference to Loremaster Celarus of the Psijic Order who had been referenced in other media but had not yet made an appearance in Online and would not until The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset.
Notes[]
- ↑ Craglorn as introduced in Update 1 was only the Lower Craglorn region. Upper Craglorn would not be introduced until Update 4.
- ↑ Craglorn has since been converted from being an 'adventure zone' into being a regular zone with group-focused content.
- ↑ Trials no longer have a soul reservoir and will cannot be failed from too many deaths. Instead, the group's score will decrease from every death that occurs.
