How Mods Made Me Love Skyrim

Anyone who's read my previous posts on this wiki probably knows how I feel about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Whilst my opinion of it isn't exactly low per se, it's not very high either. I feel as though it's a very shallow and poorly put together game overall, and whilst my opinion is unchanged, and shall remain so, there is one mitigating factor that took a boring, disappointing RPG and turned it into one of my all-time favourites. That anomalous factor, as you've likely guessed, is its modability.

Originally, before ascending to the PC Master Race, I played Bethesda games on the PlayStation 3. Having played the PC versions of the more recent Fallout and The Elder Scrolls entries, I won't ever be able to go back to the console versions. To be…

The Slightly Embellished Adventures of Alflagondorf the Adventurer

Big Game Hunting

Emerging from Brittleshin Pass, the adventurer Alflagondorf, accomponied by his stalwart companion Faendal, stopped to rest on a small rock outcropping. Scouting the vast field ahead of them, Al's eyes lit up as he saw a pair of figures approaching on the road from the west.

"Hey Faendal, you hungry?"

He was. They hadn't eaten since early that morning, when they stopped in Oakwood for breakfast. Of course, this wasn't any breakfast. This was what Alflagondorf called "a Nord breakfast", which generally consisted of a few slices of venison, wash…

Skyrim DLC Review: Good, Not Great

A few blue moons ago, Bethesda announced that they were moving on to a new adventure, leaving The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim behind to work on other projects. This disappointed me, as I felt that the game had at least another add-on in it. It's not that I think the game is in any way incomplete, it just feels like they could have done more with its life cycle. I wouldn't have even minded if they supported Skyrim with little downloadable titbits like a weapon back or a unique set of armour. Unfortunately, I was left wanting more... and not in a good way.

Hearthfire was the add-on for which I was most excited, and it certainly did deliver in some aspects. I actually wrote a review for this one, so some of the points mentioned there will overlap with…
