NPC images Edit

Hi, welcome back to the wiki. I just wanted to let you know that for NPC images, you should try to ensure that your screenshots are full-body and are cropped to a 3:5 aspect ratio, such as 648×1080 pixels. I have a guide explaining this in more depth here, if you're interested. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions, and have fun editing! —Atvelonis (talk) 20:42, January 1, 2018 (UTC)

Image licensing Edit

Hi FrisyN, great work with the images! I have one thing to request: when you're uploading a file, please be sure to enter the full image licensing information in the "Summary" box. This is necessary for all uploads. If you're not sure what to write for each variable, I would suggest you use some of the pre-filled templates I've listed on this page (you can change the game/whatever if an upload of yours doesn't exactly fit). If you use these then you don't have to select anything on the "licensing" tab on Special:Upload. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 19:22, February 28, 2018 (UTC)

Excellent work, licensing is perfect (glad that you caught the DLC distinction too). Just note that if you're specifically re-uploading an image (e.g. Eoki.png), the licensing you enter in the box for that will not actually carry over to the page content; it will only show up as a reason for the summary. So in that case you would have to enter the correct licensing by editing the file itself. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:52, March 2, 2018 (UTC)
One thing I forgot to mention: since you're uploading a whole bunch of similar images at once, instead of uploading all the images individually from Special:Upload, you may find it easier to use Special:MultipleUpload, as this allows you to do up to 10 at once. Just remember that whatever you write in the summary box will apply to every image you upload in that batch. —Atvelonis (talk) 23:10, March 3, 2018 (UTC)

Ienith/Ieneth Ancestral Tomb Edit

Per your edit here, are you sure it's spelled "Ieneth"? I haven't checked this in-game myself, but I do know that the TES III: Morrowind version was spelled "Ienith," so I just wanted to confirm. —Atvelonis (talk) 01:01, March 13, 2018 (UTC)

Gotcha, thanks for the reply. I've renamed the page just to make it more clear for readers. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:11, March 13, 2018 (UTC)

Summerset Edit

Hey FrisyN, as always very good work with the uploads. Out of curiosity, are you going to be getting the The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset chapter for ESO on May 21st when it comes out for PC? If you are, then in May it would be a good idea to focus your attention on adding pages and images for that DLC, since it's what a lot of people will be coming to the wiki to read about. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:59, March 22, 2018 (UTC)

Source Editor Edit

Hey FrisyN, I noticed earlier that an edit you made had included a formatting error, which I think was caused unintentionally by Wikia's Visual Editor. To prevent this in the future, you should consider switching to the Source Editor from the "Editing" tab in Special:Preferences. Source mode may seem confusing at first, but the markup, called wikitext, is pretty easy to learn. It's worth using because it causes fewer errors and has more features than the Visual Editor, and it teaches you the fundamentals of editing better. If you're ever unsure how to do something in Source, you can check my editing guide or ask a staff member such as myself for help. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 22:05, March 23, 2018 (UTC)

Interior map Edit

Hey FrisyN, I see you titled this image as "interior," although the map seems to be more similar to the regular world map format. I do notice that the borders on it are fuzzy though. When you go inside a delve, does the map always look like that? I'm used to having the interior map image look more like this so I'd just like some clarification. Thanks. —Atvelonis (talk) 01:01, April 13, 2018 (UTC)

Okay, that makes sense. I'm not entirely sure what the preferred alternative is in this situation though. "Interior" does get the meaning across, despite it being different from most interior maps. Perhaps we could use "Local," but that might imply that it's still outside the delve. I guess for now we can stick with "Interior" and if something more fitting pops up I'll change it. —Atvelonis (talk) 23:22, April 13, 2018 (UTC)

Weeping GiantEdit

Hey Frisy,

Since you've gotten a lot of images from ESO, I wanted to ask if you can get a picture of the Weeping Giant. If you need to find it, it's northwest of the Bangkorai entrance in Stormhaven. Thanks and have a good day. --Vincentius1 (talk) 16:22, April 13, 2018 (UTC)

Research Notes Edit

Hi FrisyN, just a heads up that the Research Notes page is actually a book in Skyrim, so for the ESO books we need to link the full category (there is no redirect, due to the Skyrim book taking that name). —Atvelonis (talk) 19:45, April 29, 2018 (UTC)

Discord Edit

Hi FrisyN, good work with the uploads as always—the amount of content you're adding is really fantastic. Anyway I do want to note that the category "ESO Morrowind: Characters" (or "Online: Characters," "Orsinium: Characters," etc.) is actually added to the page automatically through the infobox, so it's unnecessary to add it manually as you did here.

On an unrelated topic, I'd also like to invite you to join the TESWiki Discord server, if you're interested. It's a place for users/editors/staff to collaborate on editing projects, and to just relax and get to know each other better. You don't have to join if you don't want to, but I think it's nice to be able to interact with other editors more closely through it. —Atvelonis (talk) 01:10, May 8, 2018 (UTC)

Uploads Edit

Hi FrisyN, it seems that a few of your uploads from the other day didn't quite go through. This isn't your fault, though; I think it was just some maintenance on Wikia's end that caused the disruption. So if you don't mind, could you reupload these images?

Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 22:55, May 9, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Agstarg image Edit

Hey FrisyN, thanks for the message. Normally, anyone with the "custodian" tool can rename files on the wiki. On TESWiki, the custodian user-group is normally given to patrollers, and it is also included in the "sysop" flag given to admins. Unfortunately, we cannot move/rename the Agstarg image, because the file extension of the original image is .jpg, whereas the extension of the new one is .png. Whenever the file extensions are different, the reupload feature doesn't work. So in this situation I will have to delete the old image. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks. —Atvelonis (talk) 22:06, May 24, 2018 (UTC)

Image of Alinor DocksEdit

You have uploaded this https://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/File:Alinor_Docks_from_west.png image as "from west". Is it okay if I tell the admins to rename it to "from south". (because it was taken from south) TinyClayMan (talk) 20:40, May 28, 2018 (UTC)

Location categories Edit

Hi FrisyN, I hope life is treating you well. Excellent work with the Summerset stuff as always, just remember that in the case of characters who are in cities, towns, or some other locations (usually places with a lot of characters), we tend to give them a category based on where they are. For example, since Calawende is in the city of Lillandril, we would give her the category "Summerset: Lillandril Characters." Thanks. —Atvelonis (talk) 00:23, June 2, 2018 (UTC)

When you add a category such as "Summerset: Lillandril Characters" to an article, the category page itself is not automatically created. Most of the categories for Summerset already exist because I created them back in March/April, but I overlooked a few because we didn't know the specifics about the DLC back then. To make a category, you would go to Special:CreatePage just like a regular article, but for the title you would also include the "Category:" prefix before the name of the category. —Atvelonis (talk) 12:51, June 2, 2018 (UTC)
Relevant: you wouldn't have to add the category "Online: Coldharbour Locations" to the Endless Stair Wayshrine article because it already has the more specific category "Online: Fist of Stone Locations." Since the Fist of Stone location category is categorized under the Coldharbour location category, having both of them is not necessary. The more specific one is usually preferred. —Atvelonis (talk) 23:12, June 2, 2018 (UTC)

Map ImagesEdit

Greetings, FrisyN. Since you've been uploading a lot of maps, I want to recommend a "PinKiller" addon. This addon allows to remove quest pins from the map. I think it makes the map less loaded. TinyClayMan (talk) 09:24, June 15, 2018 (UTC)

Archon's Grove & Wasten CoraldaleEdit

Hey Frisy,

I wanted to ask if you could get interior images of both Archon's Grove and Wasten Coraldale. Preferable where you get a good view of the area, like with Archon's, show the view from the entrance and Coraldale, show the beach and ruins. Thanks in advance and have a good day! --Vincentius1 (talk) 15:22, June 25, 2018 (UTC)

Hi Vincentius1, sure. --FrisyN (talk) 20:21, June 25, 2018 (UTC)

Lost at Sea Edit

Hello, I saw you added an image to the Lost at Sea article, but I am assuming you forgot to upload an actual image. I'm removing link for now from the article, since it is showing at Wanted photos special page. --Rupuzioks (talk) 17:45, July 4, 2018 (UTC)

Quest stuffEdit

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for doing the objectives/journals on "A Pearl of Great Price" and other articles. I do intend to write the full walkthroughs for the Summerset main quest like I did for "The Queen's Decree," but I haven't gotten around to it just yet. Having those things already filled out makes it a lot easier for me to focus on the actual walkthrough. —Atvelonis (talk) 14:47, July 15, 2018 (UTC)

Ah, very cool. Looking forward to seeing more of your uploads! —Atvelonis (talk) 19:57, July 15, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Psijic MapEdit

Greetings. I noticed that you had created Psijic Map of Morrowind and Skyrim without creating any other articles on Psijic Maps. I simply created them and uploaded the missing files. TinyClayMan (talk) 17:39, July 27, 2018 (UTC)

Understood. I am sorry for any inconveniences caused by my actions. I will wait longer before the creation of missing articles if similar ones were created. TinyClayMan (talk) 19:04, July 27, 2018 (UTC)

Transparent Law Edit

Hi FrisyN, I noticed that you uploaded this file today and wanted to ask if you could you get a close-up of Transparent Law. The current image we have is very blurry and should be replaced. You could just crop the image I linked above, although I think a new picture from directly in front of it would look better. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 21:04, July 28, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Crafting Motif License Edit

Hi FrisyN, thanks for the message. The full licensing (on User:Atvelonis/Licensing) should be used for all uploads; the file that you linked erroneously lacks the template {{Information}}. Anyway, if a crafting motif can only be obtained when you have ESO Morrowind installed, then you should use the ESO Morrowind licensing for pictures of it. However, if it can be obtained by all players, even if they don't have ESO Morrowind, then you should just use the regular Online licensing. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:48, July 31, 2018 (UTC)

Crafting Motives' ImagesEdit

Greetings! Could you please mark (remove the bullet) all the motives' images that you add on this page? Later it would help to see which images are missing. Thanks. TinyClayMan (talk) 20:31, July 31, 2018 (UTC)

Pagemove tidiness Edit

Hi FrisyN, when you rename a page like Academy's Rejection Letter, you should also remember to use the Special:WhatLinksHere tool (accessible from the "My Tools" button on the bottom of the screen) to check which articles link to the old title, and fix them so that they use the new one. Then you can tag the redirect for deletion with {{Delete}}. An exception is when the old name is actually a legitimate alternative name, rather than a typo, and should remain on the wiki. Another exception is in instances of quoted text (either leave it alone or use a pipe link). Let me know if you have any questions, and keep up the good work. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 23:17, September 24, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Carac Dena Interior Map Edit

No worries, deleting stuff is half my job. Your image was higher resolution (and it was a PNG) so I kept it instead of the old JPG. —Atvelonis (talk) 00:16, September 27, 2018 (UTC)

Good work with all the images!

Hi FrisyN, I just wanted to give you a little thanks message since you've always worked so hard to upload images to the wiki day after day. Your contributions are very valuable, especially since we're short on ESO editors, and I really appreciate having you as a member of our community here. Keep it up! —Atvelonis (talk) 21:37, January 26, 2019 (UTC)

ESO book images Edit

Hi FrisyN, I've recently been granted access to a Google drive folder containing images of just about every single book in ESO, gathered by a very dedicated fan. The guy who took the photos said we could use them on the wiki, and I wanted to ask if you could help with that, since there are several thousand. Would you be interested? The folder has his personal info connected to it, so I don't want to share it publicly, but I could give you a link through email (teswikiatvelonis@gmail.com), Discord (Atvelonis#9495), etc. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 15:49, February 18, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Sanarel the Great Edit

Ah yeah, I was confused about that. I suspect that your issue is connected to all the wacky caching-related bugs that have been happening on Wikia yesterday/today. If you keep trying to reupload and it still doesn't work, I would recommend that you send an email to Wikia Support explaining the problem. They might not know about this particular bug, so if you tell them then they might be able to fix whatever is broken in the system. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:40, March 13, 2019 (UTC)

Ok, it looks like it's working now. I spoke to Wikia Staff earlier and they mentioned that the cache was going through a backlog, so any cached actions are just taking forever. I think this will be resolved within a few days. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:32, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

Akatosh Badge Edit

Incredible work getting the Akatosh Badge. You’re one of a small cadre of motivated editors (only 13) to have managed that in the last eight years; it’s a seriously impressive achievement.

When I got the badge I mostly just remember feeling relieved that I would be able to take breaks longer than a day, haha. And maybe now it seems like there’s no more motivation to edit daily. But for me, I always viewed it as mastery of my routine on the wiki.

So now, if anything, I am beholden to none other than myself in regards to my will to edit, rather than being arbitrarily encouraged/forced to edit every day to keep the counter going up. And this is pretty freeing. I keep editing because... I like editing. And that’s it. Which is a nice feeling, because I know that I’m doing something that makes me happy.

I very much hope that you feel the same way! See you around. :) —Atvelonis (talk) 14:17, April 4, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Elsweyr categories Edit

Hey Frisy! Thank you for the message. So all the way back in August, we decided in a moot (you should come sometime!) that we wanted to decrease the number of templates we used for ESO, since they were all basically the same across DLCs. If you look at the code for the infoboxes for Summerset, for example, they all have the same variables as the ones for the base game; the only difference is the categorization. It's a little bit annoying to have to update all of those templates every time we want to change something, so we came to the conclusion that simplifying it into a single set of templates will save us some work in the future.

The solution we worked out was originally to use a {{#switch}} in the {{OnlineCharacters}} infobox (and the other ones for the base game). This is currently what we do for a lot of maintenance templates. This solution is sort of confusing for editors to look at, though, since there are so many parameters that have to be defined in the template. So instead, Rupuzioks and I figured out earlier this week how to set up a Lua module to do the categorization for us, with less code in the template itself. It's also faster server-wise. Currently, {{OnlineCharacters}} has some two lines of code that call on this moudle:

  • {{#invoke:Online|character|{{{dlc}}}}}
  • {{#if:{{{image|}}}| |{{#invoke:Online|needchar|{{{dlc|}}}}}}}

The first one calls on the Lua module I linked and looks at the function called p.characters. In turn, this function calls on a list of parameters that can be entered into the template as valid input ("Base" for the base game, or the name of a DLC, like "ESO Morrowind" or "Elsweyr"). It then adds the correct category automatically based on that. The second one is only called if the |image parameter is empty (i.e. if the article needs an image), and then calls on the function p.needchar, which has a similar list of categories to add based on the parameter entered under the |dlc variable.

It's the same thing for the other templates. I made sure to set up {{OnlineLocations}} to work with both the location and map image needed categories, but I actually forgot to configure the infobox's parent template, {{Location}}, with the proper syntax for the new system we're using. This was why the category Category:Elsweyr: Locations wasn't appearing on the Rimmen (Online) page. It should be fixed now, though; excellent catch there, I wouldn't have noticed otherwise!

I'm going to go through all of our ESO articles with my bot at some point and update them to include the |dlc parameter at the bottom of their infoboxes, and then delete the infoboxes for the DLCs themselves, since they will no longer be needed. I think all of the template preloads should be configured to work with the new syntax, so it should be set up for you when you make a new page. Please let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks. :) —Atvelonis (talk) 15:12, May 29, 2019 (UTC)

Skyshard iconsEdit

Hey Frisy, I wanted to ask about the Skyshard icons that are visible in your map images. Are they part of an add-on? I've spent a lot of time with the game but I am still far from being good at it somehow, so I don't know if there's an option in the game for them to appear or not. If they are not from the game itself, then they shouldn't be visible in the map images, as we do not include mod content in the wiki, even if they only appear in images. Rozty (talk) 20:26, June 2, 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, it really is useful for people, I can see that. Truth be told, the icon seems to be the same as the one the game uses, and we also have a lot more map images with markings added by editors that weren't originally there. Thinking about this some more, having the Skyshards included would be better, but it would also cause confusion to people that don't know better (e.g. me). I was considering adding it as a moot topic later on, since this is not that big a change from what the base game offers anyway, and it only helps people. Rozty (talk) 16:44, June 3, 2019 (UTC)
If this passes Moot, I might want to or suggest that someone do maps for A Return To Your Roots using an add-on that shows the Crimson Nirnroot locations so that one doesn't have to track them all over the vastness of Blackreach. DaBarkspawn (talk) 17:18, June 3, 2019 (UTC)
I think it would be valuable to have a few screenshots on pages like Skyshard showing where they all are. The Crusader of Truth made a template that did this for one region some time ago. But for a map image of a regular location, where the Skyshards are relative to that location is not relevant. So generally there should be no add-on content at all in map images. —Atvelonis (talk) 18:04, June 3, 2019 (UTC)
