Template Help[edit source]

Hey Jimeee! Um... Deyvid told me that I should probably ask you for help with templating. I was trying to make a Morrowind version of the SkyrimArmor template, User:Timeoin/MorrowindArmor. As you can see... I had a bit of trouble with it. (They big trouble is that I cant work out how to make, say, the enchantments bit hidable). Do you have any idea how to make it work? :) Anyways, thanks! If you can make it work, great, if not - thats okay, too! Anyways - keep up the good work with the Skyrim pages :D TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 13:28, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

I guess if its easier, they can all be collapsible :) I only ask because the top one (the clone of the one that you made) is, well, its cooler :) The other one will work (I used the coding that I know works (because someone else showed me how to make that particular bit work :D) but yeah ... idk. Just thought I'd ask :) Anyways - night! (its 1am here) TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 15:07, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Your Two Cents[edit source]

Thanks Dad! Your input was totally needed on this issue. For the record, I only brought up my status as #13 because I felt it explained why my input should be valued as much as his, not because I felt it commanded respect. The discussion with this other user ended days ago with no further back and forth, until you chose just now to continue it. I can't imagine why you decided to instigate it further. PS I think you have me confused with someone who actually cares about encouraging new users. Winnersusedrugs (talk) 20:18, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Before you go, please try to remember that in this case, you butted in a dead argument to talk down to me and instigate a back and forth that you in fact denounced me for. Try to adjust your own attitude before you go suggesting that to others. Winnersusedrugs (talk) 20:37, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Ah, I see you deleted the shameful conversations from your talk page. Good idea, wouldn't want others to see what you're really like. Fear not, I'll be keeping an eye you from now on. Jimeee (talk) 20:45, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
I did it because you started up an argument that was dead because you wandered onto my page from somebody else's, got mad, and decided to start trouble. I don't need that every single time a hothead decides to go all white knight. By all means, restore it to its original format, hall monitor! Winnersusedrugs (talk) 20:47, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
I might have been later to the party, but if I see someone acting like a dick, i'll call them out on it - I dont care if it happened last month. You simply don't like being called out on your shitty attitude. Well guess what - that's never stopped me before, so carry on as you do. Jimeee (talk) 20:57, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
Ha, seems I'm not the only one, sweetheart ;) Your attitude is just as shitty, and as a bonus, you've also served to reinforce my bitchiness instead of genuinely encourage me to be kind to other users (the one you were defending, btw, I actually apologized to. Nice job). Winnersusedrugs (talk) 21:02, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
Aw it's so cute the way you're going around now and trying to look like the nice guy. Instead of, you know, the guy who came out of nowhere to yell at me for a long-dead fight that had actually ended with my apology. Winnersusedrugs (talk) 21:08, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
Digging yourself deeper and deeper. Jimeee (talk) 21:13, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
Aw, and look who's in here with me!
I got shit to do, go ahead and keep amusing yourself by throwing insults at my Talk page. Winnersusedrugs (talk) 21:15, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Jimeee! I will do that :) SzLevente (talk) 14:30, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

Re:Hi There![edit source]

Same to you! Been a while. Lol. I really appreciated that you split up the category like that. It didn't go unnoticed by me. In fact, I started doing it for Solitude (maybe Riften). Was a while ago. Eventually we'll need to set up the same type of standard for Oblivion cities. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 14:43, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

Cities[edit source]

I don't think the city categories, and their sub-categories, should have the game-name as a prefix. For example, Anvil never appears in any other game. Nor does Windhelm, Dawnstar, Leyawiin, etc. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 16:25, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

I agree that city categories should be separated by Quests, Locations, and Characters. That's crucial for keeping the category uncluttered and helping readers find what they're looking for. Personally, I think we should only use game-name prefixes when duplicates exist. For instance Category:Bosmer and Category:Oblivion: Bosmer. These are easily confusable. I don't, however, think Anvil, a city clearly not in Skyrim needs to be differentiated from it. That's just my personal opinion. I realize that ALL the Skyrim city categories have the prefix, but probably this is incorrect formatting (although it is consistent formatting). The original formatting of City name, without game-prefix existed before that. Maybe other editors feel differently than I do. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 16:41, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
Categorization here has been a nightmare since the merge, so I've heard. A group of frequent editors needs to get together and agree on where we should go from here. You can always start a topic about it in Forum:Consensus track or on the IRC. :) --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 16:57, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

Question about Oblivion Characters[edit source]

Just a quick one! Honest! If you're adding categories such as Oblivion: Anvil Characters to pages, could you add the other Oblivion: categories as well? :) (I.e. Oblivion: Redguards, Oblivion Males? :) TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 13:14, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! :) I figured it was something like this :) Theres only 800 or so :P TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 13:18, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Patroller[edit source]

Hey Jimeee! Recently, in the IRC, we've discussed possible candidates for new Patrollers on the wiki. During the discussion, your name was mentioned as a suitable candidate. So far, you've expressed great dedication to the wiki and contributed a great deal. Please contact Elchzard or myself if you were interested in accepting this added responsibility.

Patrollers scout the Recent Changes and New Pages for potential vandalism. With one click, you can revert multiple undesirable edits from a single user. Additionally, you can forward vandals to admins on their talk pages, or by flagging the culprit's userpage with the {{Vip}} template, the date, and the infraction. If this sounds like too much for you, that's okay. Love to hear back from you! :) --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 11:17, January 22, 2012 (UTC)

Maps[edit source]

Those maps you added are pretty impressive. Made them yourself? Great job, mate.

Ikabite (talk) 17:22, January 23, 2012 (UTC)

I agree very nice. I didn't realise we were allowed to 'borrow' stuff created by the people at Bethesda who made the official game guide, now I do! Only wish they were a bit bigger to see the key without having to open up the image. You then have to close the image to hide the links to the city locations. And it is a bit like having two keys that are different too. Oh well. Better than the 'other' site.
Venerable (talk) 20:55, January 23, 2012 (UTC)
The reason they are not bigger on page is it becomes too obtrusive. I came to this solution as trying to match up the links with the image was too problematic and ended up to be just confusing, so I just added the legend in photoshop. Like you say, it's probably better than the alternative.
Jimeee (talk) 21:13, January 23, 2012 (UTC)
Well as this is Wiki, other people's points should count. So I will make mine. To be useful a map should be a big as possible without getting in the way of anything else. There is no reason that the city maps you have taken from the digital guide cannot be made larger. There is ample room and therefore could not be described as obtrusive. Matching the links to the images is a logical thing to do to. It is not problematic, just a little difficult and would of added clarity not confusion if done correctly.
Venerable (talk) 21:39, January 23, 2012 (UTC)
Of course you point counts - I never said it didn't! The maps as they are at the moment sit at 350px width. Some can maybe extended to 400px but any larger and they will start to overlap onto the 'point of interest' and everything starts getting squashed. There just isn't ample room in the 'points of interest' section for a large detailed map.
In my opinion (of course other editors/admins might disagree) a huge map taking up the full width of the page is a little obtrusive as it breaks the flow of the page. The map themselves are still pretty large when viewed in their own window. See here
As for the legend and the links not matching - the official game guide maps have several labels to pages that don't exist bacause we don't really need such pages - like "City Gates and Drawbridge". They even have labels for characters standing about on the streets for the Solitude map! We obviously wouldn't want to have a character listed in the points of interest page.
Trying to shoehorn in our own numbering system into the official maps system would leave gaps in the numbered list and it would look inconsistent.
Jimeee (talk) 22:14, January 23, 2012 (UTC)

That is all cool. Glad to be privy to your reasoning. I created my maps to appear at 400pxls and made sure any text was sized correctly and readable without needing to open the image. Any wider would be obtrusive. So actually we agree on this.

I would be happy to amend the official maps in PS to remove any labels that do not correspond to the points of interest section, which if I am reading it right would do the trick. I would be happy to trial this on Riverrun so you/we can decide which method you/we prefer (using one of the official maps). I know I could just do it but that would be a bit rude, so thought I would check with you first, same team and all.
PS. Are we really allowed to use the maps from the official digital maps? (considering Bethesda charge for the pleasure and would potentially loose income by having them exist on wiki too).Venerable (talk) 12:23, January 24, 2012 (UTC)

Blessings[edit source]

Why did you revert my undo on the blessings page in which someone incorrectly added that blessings last 8 in game hours? Blessings last 8 real world hours, not in-game hours. You can verify this in the game. Select a blessing, look at your active effects and it will show 7 hours (the game timer rounds down as soon as it ticks down to 7:59). Wait or sleep 8 hours, 8 days, it doesn't matter, and the active effects will still show 7 hours. Play the game for an hour and then look at it, and it will still be there and now show 6 hours. --jimnms (talk) 19:02, January 25, 2012 (UTC)

Re:Fast ban[edit source]

Meh. Thanks. I noticed it right away, because I was uploading an image too. At any rate, I only banned him for three days -- a slap on the wrist type of thing. He may not have been aware that nude image are prohibited. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He uploads more, or vandalizes the wiki in any other way, he'll be perma-banned. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 11:46, January 30, 2012 (UTC)

Categorization for Armor[edit source]

Hi Jimeee. I noticed that you don't agree with my placement of armor in the Apparel category in addition to the Armor category. When you're in game, what category is your armor in? It's in Apparel in mine. That's why I thought it made sense to include armor in the Apparel category on the wiki. A new user looking for different kinds of armor just might follow the lead of the game and look in the Apparel category for armor. Food for thought. GramsJ (talk) 17:13, January 30, 2012 (UTC)

Apparel categorization[edit source]

This can be very confusing. Right now, I believe clothing items appear in both Skyrim: Armor and Skyrim: Apparel because of the {{SkyrimArmor}} infobox. Personally, I think this does need fixing. Right now, with the image categories, we have Armor and Apparel images as sub-categories of "Item Images". I like this idea, since technically, they are still items. I don't think armor/apparel/jewelry needs to also be placed in Skyrim: Items, because it'll get really messy really quickly. As far as jewelry goes, I've been labeling that as "Apparel" too. I don't think a Jewelry category is necessary, for the simple fact that there probably shouldn't be individual articles on each piece of jewelry as is. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 12:10, January 31, 2012 (UTC)

Blade/sword[edit source]

Category:Swords refers to swords weapons across games. If the category becomes too large, we can filter it by game. However, Category:Blades is reserved for members of the Blades faction. I understand that the sword-skill in Oblivion is Blade, but the weapons are still labeled as "swords" in-game. Hope this rationale makes sense. :) --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 10:16, February 6, 2012 (UTC)

A handful of us are already on the IRC, discussing categorization of all things. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 10:24, February 6, 2012 (UTC)

cats[edit source]

Hiya Jimeeee. I do understand what you are saying about certain categories like Location that has a lot of entries and I do wish there was a better way to help that. I think if we could somehow have the specific category automatically nest within the parent category that would be great but right now it does not seem to be possible. Also, with a strict hierarchical format you have problems with entries that do not fit neatly into one or even 2 cats... for example since it has been used before: Azshara's Star - it is "Misc" based on in-game listing so goes in that cat. It also is a quest item, a daedric item, a magic item, etc .. using a tree this one item will still have to be listed under several cats to allow for cross referencing. --DLanyon (talk) 01:58, February 7, 2012 (UTC)

Category[edit source]

Hey Jimeee! It's not necessarily that I disagree with your edits, but we haven't come to a conclusion yet on how to best categorize the wiki. It would be best to avoid making any major changes until we've had time to discuss it further -- all of us. There are a few of us on the IRC, if you want to join in on the conversation. I'm exhausted and won't be online much longer. At present, even though the voting closed on the forum, I think it's been agreed upon that the results were to close to consider any one side the victor. In the mean time, we need to come up with a comprise and untangle this knot together as a community. :) --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 10:58, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

I understand, and I figured that was the case (you being at work). I agree that "Individuals" vs. "Characters" is something that needs straightening out. We can't have both. I think "Individuals" is left over from the wiki merge. Something that hasn't been cleaned up yet. But, whenever you get the change, jump on the IRC so we can all talk about it. Right now, Tim's not there. And it would be nice if Elch was on to, for the discussion. But, if you're feeling ambitious, you can make a forum in F:CT about some smaller category changes in the mean time. --— Deyvid Petteys (bother \ stalk) 11:08, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

For Factions, I don't see a proper way to navigate to it. Unless i am missing where this link is, how do you propose new users to the site locate it? It is not listed in the main menu as other topics - such as vampirism. Also, if you are able to, i was trying to see if the Gameplay link in the main maun could be corrected. Currently it goes to a dead page instead of to the Skyrim: Gameplay page. Dolgar (talk) 14:59, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

ok, i'll review the notes. looks like you guys had the discussion shortly after i joined. Any ideas on the menu link? the page exists, but the link currently points to Skyrim:Gameplay (a dead page) instead of Category: Gameplay. I was going to edit the dead page and place a page forward script to the correct page. That really is an ugly way to do it, but it will get the navigation menu corrected. Any ideas, or is that in the works to fix? Dolgar (talk) 17:18, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
