Will do, sorry about that.

ESO locations[edit source]

Hey Ned, great work on the Landmarks (Online) page. I also wanted to let you know that we tend to organize ESO lists by faction, then by region, so Dominion, Covenant, Pact, and then the regions controlled by them as subheadings (neutral/DLC regions get their own section). That way readers can pick out the places for their faction more easily.

We have a lot of lists for ESO that just don't exist for some reason, so if you plan on sticking around it would be fantastic if you could work on those other ones too. I've been planning on doing them for a while now but I'm kind of lazy so that never happened, haha. So if you're interested just let me know. Thanks. Have fun editing! —Atvelonis (talk) 20:09, February 11, 2016 (UTC)

Ah, good to know. I would fix it, but actually, all the landmarks I've seen have no faction affiliation. However, I'll add a bit about that specifically to the page.
Also, I will be sticking around for a bit, so I might make some more lists. Sounds great! Thanks Atv.

Re: Minor Vandalism[edit source]

I've added it here. Atv will see it very soon and take all the appropiate action as he sees fit. Thanks for the revert and it's all being handled.

Bronkiin (talk) 13:45, February 12, 2016 (UTC)

Great, thanks for that. I of course know of the VIP page, but for some reason I forgot about it :P.
Ned Tp- Contribs 14:12, February 12, 2016 (UTC)

Redirects[edit source]

Hey Ned. In regards to the debacle here, redirects are a tough thing to understand especially because the old administration talked them up as wasteful or something in the past. They're very useful in cutting down on page size and improve fluency for editors. Some prominent examples would be the Timeline redirects I've made, so instead of writing 1E 2920 thousands of times, simply 1E 2920 does the same exact thing but is way more compact. It's a neat little trick that no one used to capitalize on for some reason. If you have any questions about this stuff or anything else I'm happy to answer. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 05:30, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Oh ok, I guess Shockstorm had a point then. Thanks for telling me! I'm still living in the past, so updates are always good. I won't go back specifically fix any redirect links anymore. Again, thank you for correcting me, Atv, since that had been a clear rule in my head.
Ned Tp- Contribs 05:37, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry for not making that clear - should've explained that. --Shockstorm (talk) 18:20, February 13, 2016 (UTC)

Bloodmoon Characters page[edit source]

Hey Ned,

Please come see me in chat about the bloodmoon characters page if you have a second. Thanks! The_CrusaderTalkpage05:06:36_February 25, 2016

So Crusader, what is it you wanna talk to me about the Bloodmoon page? Ned Tp- Contribs 20:08, February 25, 2016 (UTC)

Stalls[edit source]

I've just conferred with Atv, and we've decided to mark stalls separately. Stalls are named but not marked on the map. That is how we'll define them. Come to me if you identify anomalies or difficulties in terms of categorisation. Proceed as you were!

Bronkiin (talk) 20:11, February 26, 2016 (UTC)

Alright, sounds good to me. Sorry for that, glad it's been cleared up. Ned Tp- Contribs 17:40, February 29, 2016 (UTC)

Guruzug[edit source]

You just changed up the style of writing a bit and normally making it a bit longer, I wouldn't mind. But "residing" implies actually living there. And "Interactions" has been a sort of standardized header for the quests section on character pages.

Ikabite (talk) 18:43, March 3, 2016 (UTC)

Note that you don't use "Interactions" for location/item pages. For example you don't exactly interact with an inn, you interact with the people inside the inn, so you would just use "Quests" for the location page. —Atvelonis (talk) 18:56, March 6, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Congrats![edit source]

Thanks, I appreciate it. Say thanks back to Sajuuk for me as well. Regarding the slavers thing, I suppose it's a possibility, but before we go any further with categorization we should work out how to format it in infoboxes and everything first because it's currently not standardized. —Atvelonis (talk) 16:49, March 4, 2016 (UTC)

Books[edit source]

Hey Ned,

The pages you added "Anonymous" to that you didn't change from unknown, did you check ingame to make sure that they don't have a known author? If the variable is only blank and you don't know about the author, it's {{Missing|Online, not that, so I'm checking to make sure. The_CrusaderTalkpage06:21:27_March 09, 2016

Yeah, I know. They don't appear to have authors from what I saw. Anyway, thanks for giving me the heads up.
-Ned Tp- Contribs 18:31, March 9, 2016 (UTC)
Umm, could you pop by chat for a second? I may have to go soon, but I want to check up on something with you. Thanks, and sorry for the mystery air to the message. The_CrusaderTalkpage06:56:55_March 09, 2016

Re: New Disambigs?[edit source]

That's a possibility. It could definitely prove useful to users and it would boost our page count somewhat. However, I imagine the lists for some of the more common surnames would probably get pretty lengthy, so it might be difficult to organize or even expand fully in the first place. You should bring it up at the moot this Saturday and we'll vote on it. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:01, March 9, 2016 (UTC)

Appearances Template[edit source]

Hey Ned,

I have absolutely no clue what in tarnations you're doing with that Appearances template. However. I still want to say that you can feel free to use my sandbox to test any wiki wide stuff on it. Some of my mediawiki stuff may not quite be the exact same as here, but the test should be able to run smoothly. I'm proud to say I finally managed to clean it up today for the most part, so it shouldn't be too hard to use. If you do use it, but do all the pages you make under category Ned, then put that category under browse.

Still. I'm really curious to see what you're going to do with this. The_CrusaderTalkpage11:37:39_March 10, 2016

Oh, and sorry for a separate message, but you should consider using <noinclude for your template. The_CrusaderTalkpage11:39:37_March 10, 2016

Re: Appearances Template[edit source]

It's interesting, but only a marginal improvement. You would have to bring it up in the moot before we start using it, and yes we could do it without bots but that would require 40,000 edits... which is a huge number, and I really don't want to be focusing that much on extremely minor maintenance when we could be adding content. Before you even bring it up, you should fix the mentioned only parts though. —Atvelonis (talk) 20:06, March 11, 2016 (UTC)

Book pages[edit source]

Hi Ned, please don't add extra capitalization to headings, we agreed a very long while ago not to do this. So it would be ==Known locations== rather than ==Known Locations==, for example. Obviously if it's a proper noun you would capitalize it but for the most part leave it lowercase. Also, if a location appears in Dawnguard on a book list you should add the template DG to the end of the line rather than the Dawnguard template, which is less compact. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 15:04, March 14, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, now I'm aware of those things. Sorry, I guess. My god, things are so confusing. Heh. There are far too many little things I get mixed up with or forget about, which is more than mildly annoying to say the least. Oh well, I guess I won't make those mistakes again.

Interview![edit source]

Hey Ned, this has been a long time coming, but you've landed on my list of interview candidates. Should you accept, I just need you to copy/paste your answers (with the questions, as it makes my job way easier) onto my talk page. As always, I will leave the completed article here when I am finished.

1) How did you fall into our community and get so involved?

2) How long have you been playing the Elder Scrolls?

3) Where did you get the idea of making an Elder Scrolls Wikia Wikia?

4) Is it making any progress? How would you like to raise more awareness?

5) I read your interview with yourself while surfing through the blog section of your little pet project and I have to say, you should have came to me. What sort of blogs would you even make for that site?

6) I noticed my page is still sorely lacking...I know that it would be more convenient for me to write about myself, but then where is the fun of reading it? I want to see someone else's interpretation of my grand history here. If you need help, just look at my blogs! It's not so much a question as it is a request. Sajuuk's page is super detailed, but what about THE MOST IMPORTANT USER HERE?! Ahem...So do you think you could do that? Cheers mate.

Re: Skyrim: Quest Givers[edit source]

I don't see why not. Just be sure to complete it. Also, I see you've been reworking the region categories for locations in Daggerfall a little bit; this is something I've been planning on doing for a while, but have never gotten around to, so thank you for starting it! However, you should be aware that when you have a more specific location category to an article, you should generally remove the broader one. So, for example, since Gothdale has Daggerfall: Dwynnen Locations, there is no need for Daggerfall: High Rock Locations anymore, as Dwynnen is a region within High Rock. Note that if there isn't a more specific category available, then you can just keep the broader one. So always keep the most specific location category that's possible. Thanks! —Atvelonis (talk) 00:12, March 19, 2016 (UTC)

Also, sidenote, do not ever remove the subheadings on Daggerfall location pages like you did here, and don't add links to them either as there are literally tens (or hundreds) of thousands of them. These are organized carefully by how they are in-game so removing the headings is just confusing and counter-productive. There is not much else to add to Daggerfall city pages so if it has the proper stuff in the infobox and the sublocations on the article it should not be marked as a stub. Be careful when editing stuff like that. —Atvelonis (talk) 00:54, March 19, 2016 (UTC)

Re: No cats for Skyrim articles[edit source]

Well, currently we don't use quest giver cats for the ESO DLCs, but that is mostly only because we don't know who the quest givers in them even are. How about you come to the moot later this afternoon and we can talk about the whole thing then? And regarding the characters by location categories, we have them for the big cities like Whiterun, Solitude, etc. but I'm not sure why we don't have any for the smaller settlements. But we do need them for all those settlements, so go right ahead. —Atvelonis (talk) 16:18, March 19, 2016 (UTC)

Userbox[edit source]

I don't know what that whole Trump userbox/"Idiots" category thing was about, and I'm supposed to be taking a break from the wiki right now, but I'm going to request anyway that you refrain from using terms like that in the future. If you really want a descriptive category for that userbox just put "Trump Supporters" or something. This whole thing seems more like a joke than an attack to me, but it might not appear that way to everyone, so just think a little more carefully about what you post before you actually do it. —Atvelonis (talk) 20:58, March 20, 2016 (UTC)

1) You're doing it yet again, and we're not interested in any more excuses. 2) When myself and others pointed out that this isn't the place for jokes, you told us to "calm down" and made it clear that you weren't interested in taking things seriously. I wouldn't care much except for the fact that you just lied in your message to Atv. --Shockstorm (talk) 20:46, March 21, 2016 (UTC)

Oh ok, won't do it again. Also, what did I lie about? What are you talking about? You didn't say "rah rah rah," but what else is there? Ned Tp- Contribs 21:13, March 21, 2016 (UTC)

Thalmor[edit source]

Hi, thanks for pointing out that it was generic Thalmor dialogue- I wasn't sure as I tend to kill them on-site so I never listen to their dialogue. I would like to offer some advice in asking that you don't include snippy comments in the edit summary though- a reason is suffice enough, there is no reason to antagonise other editors. I was once a regular editor here myself, I know how things work and if it hadn't been generic dialogue, that's where it would have gone until someone actually wrote a transcript of the dialogue- then it could be moved to a new dialogue section. Happy editing.

Pyandonea[edit source]

Hi Ned. That map is fake and shouldn't be included on the article. 02:13, March 25, 2016 (UTC)

User, The map correctly outlines Pyandonea, and is taken from a larger map of Tamriel supplied by Bethesda i believe. For all intended purposes, the image is an accurate depiction of Pyandonea, and as such can be used as an image on the site. If you wish to take this up further, put a message on one of the admins or forium moderators talk pages. Thanks Mechazod (talk) 02:20, March 25, 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, Mecha, that's exactly what I thought. Ned Tp- Contribs 02:22, March 25, 2016 (UTC)
Actually, that outline comes from a different fanmade map based on a globe sprite in Daggerfall. 02:26, March 25, 2016 (UTC)

What are you talking about, it's just the map. How can you tell what outline it's based off of? It seems accurate enough to me. Maybe that guy just pretended that he created the official map. You know how these things happen. Ned Tp- Contribs 02:28, March 25, 2016 (UTC)

Thought I'd pop by and tell ya that you're going good work with those categories. Ned, I told Atv what happened and a few other mods, and right now you are free to come on chat. DO NOT do that again, or anything of that Nature or I will be forced to ban you or another mod as long as we see fit. This is a stern, very stern Warning. Re: More categories[edit source]

Occupation is not really applicable to anything other than ESO. It refers to specific group of subtypes of merchants, and those subtypes aren't in the other games. So it wouldn't really work out.

We had a CT about a year ago regarding the class category thing for Morrowind (link). We decided not to categorize them based on that because it would be a whole lot of work for very little benefit, and it isn't really something readers look for as it has few effects on their experience in the game. —Atvelonis (talk) 16:06, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Weapons page names[edit source]

I apologize for my unwitting actions, but in my defense: Each of the Daggerfall weapons are in Arena, but do not yet have pages. I feel that the Daggerfall designation, while it may not necessary at the moment, will spare a few headaches down the road. That said, I respect your position of authority and will comply.

for clarification:

I would like to know what you meant when you said "If it doesn't exist in other games, and/or they aren't supposed to have pages.", specifically the "aren't supposed to have pages" part.

Also, for future reference: I would suggest taking immediate action to the problem user's talk page. As I am sure you know, a user will receive a pop up telling you about new messages. I feel that this unfortunate run-in could have been avoided with a direct message after the first offense, rather than edit summaries which the offender would have to see in Wiki activity or their email.

Once more: My sincerest apologies, and I will make sure it won't happen again. :) The Boy Who Cried Godzilla (talk) 19:29, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Alright! I'm glad we could settle this and part with no hard feelings. Thanks for cleaning up my mess!

Edits[edit source]

Hey Ned, just something you should be careful about, in edits like this you are removing valid information a fair bit. For example, you changed, "In almost every giant camp, there are at least two to three sacks of mammoth cheese that can be harvested for a bowl each." to just "Giant camps." That sentence could have used some rewording for sure, but it still contained useful information; in this case the quantity of the item. In the Trivia section you removed information about which giant camp the point was mentioning. Instead of removing it, you should add the camp's name so that the point is more helpful to readers. You've done this kind of thing on other articles as well; in the future just think about it from a reader's perspective and try not to completely remove anything relevant. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:43, March 28, 2016 (UTC)

Essential NPCs[edit source]

Characters such as Klimmek and Boti are most certainly not essential. Where are you getting that information? —Atvelonis (talk) 02:56, March 30, 2016 (UTC)

Re: Hearthfire characters cat?[edit source]

The reason we don't have a category for Hearthfire is because it's very small, however I do see the use of some new categories for it. You should bring it up at the moot before you do anything (really, anything big should be mentioned at the moot just in case). —Atvelonis (talk) 03:14, March 30, 2016 (UTC)

Durnehviir[edit source]

Hi, just seeking clarification for why my information was removed and attributed to "Because my edit was conflicted"? If you were trying to recover a previous edit, be aware of new edits and be sure to merge them rather than simply remove it out of laziness. Each contributor's time is valuable. If you removed it because we both edited at the same time, the same applies; it's rude to simply remove another user's work for sheer laziness- learn to merge writings.
☽O☾ Bluesonic1 Message Me A.svgR.svgU.svgD.svgO.svgR.svg -- { 12:35, March 30, 2016 (UTC) }

I appreciate the apology, but you shouldn't be doing stuff like that based on who made the edit. Wikia gives you a conflict message and stops your edit for a reason- you're meant to go back and check who did what and then edit that revision and keep doing the work you were doing. Unless the edit was clearly vandalism then by all means overwrite it...

Re: My improvement[edit source]

I try to avoid editing past midnight as well, if I can avoid it. The more tired you are, the more mistakes you are bound to make. If you want to refine your skills, I recommend you closely watch the way experienced and knowledgeable editors edit. Edits from me, Bronkiin, The Cat Master, Shockstorm, and so on; anyone who has a lot of good experience with the wiki. Look at user contributions and new edits frequently. See what they revert, what they add, and how they format articles of all types. This might take a while. You have to keep in mind that you can't become a great editor overnight; it takes a lot of hard work and attention to detail over time.

It's also a good idea to be careful to be consistent in articles. For example, if you think you see a formatting error on an article, check similar articles to see if they also have it. If they all do, it's probably there intentionally and shouldn't be changed. That said, it's also good to think outside the box; maybe it's a poor format that carried over simply because there was nothing better at first, in which case it's worth bringing up to other editors at some point (more so if it negatively affects readers). Use initiative when it comes to these things, think for yourself, but it's always a good idea to pop into chat or something and ask for an alternative opinion. Being a good editor requires sharp personal editing skills as well as effective collaboration with others. —Atvelonis (talk) 17:55, March 30, 2016 (UTC)

Morrowind IDs[edit source]

Hey Ned,

You recently gave an edit summary saying "Morrowind IDs specifically have the underscore." I saw you've been adding underscores to character, locations, etc. IDs. You really shouldn't do this. The underscore in Morrowind ID differs per location/character, most IDs don't have it. I don't know to how many articles you've added this, but please check the Morrowind Construction Set before adding more of them, I don't particularly like having false info on our articles. Thanks, —CarloV3r (talk) 10:27, January 16, 2017 (UTC)

You sure? I thought I saw you adding it to a bunch of other articles too. Alright then, good.—CarloV3r (talk) 20:59, January 18, 2017 (UTC)

Daggerfall Locations[edit source]

Hey Ned. Could I ask a small favour? Those locations from The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - when you create a page, can you please add a link to it on the region pages? (Or, at least, if you have a list of locations that you're going to add, have them on a user page like User:Ned1230/Daggerfall, and I'll add them? They keep showing up on the Orphaned Pages list. Re: Missing templates on Legends pages[edit source]

Hey Ned, nice to see you back. In this case, those sections should remain on the pages because all of them require that information in some way. So no need to remove them. I think Rupuzioks and The Lusty Dovahkiin are doing work on Legends content right now, so you can coordinate filling in those sections with them if you wish. —Atvelonis (talk) 14:56, November 18, 2017 (UTC)

Triggered statement[edit source]

Hey Ned. Noticed your "Wow, I'm legitimately triggered rn, I thought I got rid of all Morrowind a long time ago" statement on the Recent Changes, and decided to look to see if there were any more. My old database dump from October 5th picked up 2000 pages with "in Morrowind." My first guess is I figured you'd want to know. I'm going to leave a list of everything that came up below:

 • here

It should kinda be noteworthy some of those are just reference tags, but I also noticed armor, locations, quests, etc. I'm not sure if you meant just characters or what, so merry Christmas I guess. I can do a look for just characters if that's what you meant. Hope this helps out. – The Crusader of Truth (talkchat) 17:06, November 18, 2017 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with the usage of that template in the leads of most articles. No need to go and remove all 2000 examples of it. We have/had a policy (unwritten?) against using the game in the lead of character articles, and this is generally accepted practice in busier NPC leads, but for many other articles it can stay. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:28, November 19, 2017 (UTC)

Character disambigs[edit source]

We decided earlier this year (I believe) that we wouldn't continue making first-name disambiguation pages like "Sadas," because this gives the impression that there is actually a character with that name. In fact, when there actually is a character of that name, it only makes the whole thing more inconsistent and more confusing. So you don't have to make any more of those. —Atvelonis (talk) 19:29, November 19, 2017 (UTC)

Second person exception[edit source]

I know this is inconsistent with written policy but we intentionally use second person in the Console Commands pages because they're very technical already, and kind of need to be written more like guides to be of any use. Rewriting it in third person is tougher for the reader to understand and really isn't necessary. —Atvelonis (talk) 03:09, November 22, 2017 (UTC)

I've updated TES:S&F to reflect this practice. It wasn't explained anywhere as far as I can tell, so it's totally understandable that you'd make those edits. In general, though, I think you have a tendency to make changes to a great number of articles very quickly without necessarily being 100% caught up on their current formatting. This is something that you can improve if you focus on it.
I'm not saying your edits are unnecessary, but in most situations I would err on the side of caution: if you're even a little bit unsure about something, ask about it! There are a lot of intentional inconsistencies on the wiki, and it's difficult to keep track of them all, especially if you haven't edited in a while. I'm sure there are things that might stand out to you as being undesirable, but most of these have a reason for existing.
I think you're on the Discord already, so you can always ask on there or DM me if you want a clarification on anything. That will save myself and the patrollers a good deal of work in the future if there are ever any further discrepancies. —Atvelonis (talk) 03:25, November 22, 2017 (UTC)

Yo[edit source]

Howdy! Just wanted to say hi. In case you didn't know, The Elder Scrolls Wiki Wiki got closed a few months back due to the inactivity. It was fun while lasted, so thanks for getting me involved. And nice to see you back here!

See you round, Ottoman Hold Message Me My Action 04:21:47 December 19, 2018

Yeah, not much has happened in the last year, although The Cat Master resigned from the wiki and The Crusader of Truth closed his account, but otherwise, nothing much. Ottoman Hold Message Me My Action 04:35:53 December 19, 2018

subst:PAGENAME[edit source]

Hey Ned, welcome back. When you're using to create a lot of articles, be aware that it doesn't work properly for anything that has an apostrophe, such as Kingsmith's Guard. It will insert the URL code for the character (&#39;) instead of the actual thing. So you should go and fix these after creating the pages, or just enter the titles manually in the lead to begin with. Thanks. —Atvelonis (talk) 16:47, December 19, 2018 (UTC)

Hey ned[edit source]

H:ey ned! Long time no see, what are you doing these days? Starkiller131 (talk) 04:35, December 21, 2018 (UTC)

Nothing much these days except work; I don't edit much anymore as I've slowly lost a LOT of interest. Though, I couldn't resist fixing some of your mistakes;) :p. Starkiller131 (talk) 04:42, December 21, 2018 (UTC)
