Folgunthur problems Edit

Hello, I have a serious problem, I have just completed the Folgunthur section of Forbidden Legend, and on my way out I discovered the gate leading to Skyrim will not open. I got through the first gate, but the second gate is closed and I don't know how to get it open. I have tried every switch,chain,lever in the dungeon and it WILL NOT OPEN. This is immensely frustrating as I cannot leave the dungeon, PLEASE HELP ME.

Hey Timeoin, I've got a massive problem with this user: [[]]

He's reverting my article changes and is arguing with me. He also has been vandalizing pages and is not allowed to revoke my changes, as it is considered vandalism. Please ban him from the Wiki if you would.. Thanks Time!

^Might I also say that the user was warned on several other occasions (once by an admin) to stop editing so disruptively. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 00:39, November 28, 2011 (UTC)

How is it that he was doing something correct by replacing my well-made for-this-wiki video link, with his own, which is a very bad quality video providing nothing at all ? My video brings information and comparisons to other armors, which is why I think the link is allowed in there. Like I told him, I had the link up 1 week ago, it was removed because of the policie but put back when the policie change saying we can have links for that kind of video. Then he tries replacing it afterwards? My link has been up for couple of days, his video was made yesterday so I dont really know what logic he goes on saying his was there first.

When to make a page. Edit

Even though weapons exist, does that mean that every single common item/weapon gets its own page? To give an example see the history of Poacher's Axe. I added a delete tag and someone else removed it saying that because it exists means it gets a page. So in order to prevent an edit war I am here asking you about it. Thanks. Easter Eggs Edit

Like I said on the talk page, can we please overhaul the easter egg page. The ones people keep putting up on there nearly mangle the source material and draw wild conclusions from unreleated items. Sorry but it simply gets under my skin when things like this happen, especially after the "grampy the mammoth" incident. Aleksandr the Great (talk) 04:36, November 28, 2011 (UTC)

Just checked out the Gaming wikia stats, and you're the #1 editor on Xbox 360 gaming wikis, as well as number three on Wikia Gaming and PC Games. Awesome job! I'm right up there with you on some of them. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 11:57, November 29, 2011 (UTC)
You know, I've considered it. I have the experience, being an admin on another wikia wiki, as well as the forked/independent version of that wiki. Two things stop me from doing it: one, I haven't been an editor here that long (two weeks), and two, I don't feel like I know the other editors here or the policies as much as I should. Maybe some time in the near future I'll go ahead and apply for adminship. I wouldn't mind being a rollbacker or something, though, until that time. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 12:44, November 29, 2011 (UTC)

Silda the Unseen Edit

Dear User Timeoin,

I want to inform you that i've changed back the name of Silda the Unseen. You changed it to Sidla the Unseen, but that's not the right name. I've looked her up ingame and found her. It is Silda and not Sidla. Also see here. Why did you think Sidla was the right name, what was your source? I don't want to know that because i want to check what your doing, but i'm curious where'd you got the name Sidla. Kennyannydenny (talk) 13:48, November 30, 2011 (UTC)

No problemo. Everyone can make a mistake so now and then. Unfortunately i don't have that strategy guide, so i'll have to stick with searching things in the game itself (cant do pc stuff because i have it on the xbox :P, so all the pages i make are without a picture, which makes me sad, but there's no way for me to make them without the use of a camera pointed at my tv. But that'll be some really ugly pictures and we don't need those) and really only use uesp for the RefID and BaseID. I don't think i can find those in the xbox version of the game... ;) Kennyannydenny (talk) 14:43, November 30, 2011 (UTC)

Note about location templatesEdit

{C {C Hi Timeoin

I made several location specific templates (dragons lairs, giant camps etc) that follow the default locations template you recommended - the only differance is it had the official skyrim icon for that location in the header. I plan to add more.(Category:Templates/Infoboxes)

I've been using these extensively when adding new pages, but I think many users are not aware other templates exist and are using the default location one. Should we perhaps encourage users to start use these location specific templates to save having to change it all in the future?

Re:Horik HalfhandEdit

Don't feel threatened! Lol. Actually, I had the edit planed for days (when I first visited Dawnstar and got arrested for killing someone... Dark Brotherhood business :P), but I was waiting for someone to create the page. The "behind the scenes" was actually taken from the Easter Egg page, although I have read the Donaldson novel and made the same connection. While I have your attention, I want to fix {{SkyrimCharacters}}, which is protected. I want to make it so we can personally resize images, basically so they don't end up all blurry and pixelated such as you see in Horik Halfhand, Irileth, Bryling and others. If I do that, it means we'll have to edit every single page with that template, but I think the image quality of all those pages would benefit greatly because of it. Anyway, sorry for the wall o' text lol. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 05:15, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Let me know if it looks better this way. We'll have to change all the other character pages, if we keep it this way and the image won't stretch to fill the borders of the infobox, but at least some images will look cleaner, and the text inside the infobox won't get pushed to the bottom of the article where no one can see it. Just let me know what you think when you've got a second. Don't want to change all the page, unless we decide which method is better. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 05:35, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

I'm almost thinking it was better the way it was before. I think I might undo the change and simply upload resized images to replace the poor quality ones. Not sure though. I like the idea of keeping the option to upload in the infobox; it'll encourage people to contribute more. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 05:55, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem with the character infobox template, it is not showing pictures like they used to. Seems to be a problem with the keyword " |image = example.jpg" . I am unsure how to check it though, so I thought I would drop a line and see if you knew how to fix it (or somone that knows that stuff).BryanWPeterson, View my work (PC, Version: Steam 1.1.21) 09:48, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim Cheats Edit

I am curious as to why you moved Skyrim Cheats to a forum. The page was just getting started, and is designed to be analogous to Oblivion Cheats. ▫ JohnnyMrNinjatalk 11:48, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for moving it back. I noticed that you are an admin. If possible, would you mind deleting the redirect at Oblivion Cheats so Oblivion cheats can be moved there? I'm not sure what the usual process is for that on this wiki. ▫ JohnnyMrNinjatalk 20:36, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Response to your questionsEdit

Hi Timeoin, I got you message.

"is it possible to have it somewhere so that that icon thingy (the one for tombs, dwarven ruins, etc, etc) shows up depending on what they put for "Type" in Template:SkyrimLocations?"

I don't think that possible. I must also admit that i'm not an expert with templates and much of what i'm learning is "on the job" so to speak, but as far as I know I don't think we can streamline all the location templates into 1. The thing is not all types of locations should have all the same parameters - such as "settelments" shouldn't really have an "enemies" field and so on. I would have imagined that each location specific template would be tailored to suit what covers, rather that 1 big default one.

But the final question (and the most important one) is... would this be okay with you if we DID streamline it into the one category? (As you yourself said, you DID spend a fair amount of time making those templates). In the long run, yes, it would be better to have the one templates, however, its dependent mainly on those other questions. (For instance, the ones you made, with the icon-images, look awesome

The reason I like icon-image style templates is that it's a great visual indicator for the user and helps identify immedietely what the page is about. Also keeping the templates seperate can allow us to automatically assign categories in the code of the template - so we wont need to add categories manually for pages.

If you really want locations streamlined into 1 default template then I think we would lose a nice touch we have that other sites don't. Again, I don't know for certain it it's possible or not (i'm not an expert) , it might be with some rewriting the code in the templates.

Another point I was going to makes was I made 2 templates for Skyrim weapons and armor - these can be seen in Category:Infobox_templates. I think they look a bit better visually than boring tables with fat borders - so how about we start using these for now. You can see them in action on these 2 pages:

There is still much to be done though, so many pages need catogorical structure.

I thought it was supposed to do that automatically. Guess I'll have to figure it out. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 16:16, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Do you think it would just be better to have the infobox the way it was before? We can change it back. Of course, some images will look funky again, but we can just upload new ones, I guess. I say this because I'm not sure of how to have the uploaded image directly put into the infobox after --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 16:49, December 1, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I updated the template doc so other people knew how to properly format the images. It's not too big of a deal, since some people don't know how type out an image "plain text" either. At any rate, we might as well keep it, since other editors, such as Poppaberry and Crelia have been helping me fix the images. Plus, I kinda like that some of the images aren't stretched to the borders of infobox; some now have a grayish border, which looks better now in my opinion. Furthermore, I don't know if I should keep uploading screenshots. I can't take high resolution photos, because it'll crash my game xD. So, I'll leave that to other people, I guess. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 21:49, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

Now that I think of it: one of the qualifications for using copyrighted images under "fair use" is that those images need to be low-resolution copies of the original work. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 21:59, December 1, 2011 (UTC)

In the Speech skill section there is a typo. You say, "...will net only skill increse..." I think you mean will net only ONE skill increase, but I am not sure. Just thought I could help.

ORIGINAL TEXT: Note that Speech skill increases from buying/selling are gained on a per transaction basis, meaning that selling 6 items at once will net only skill increase, while selling each item separately (6 individual sales, 1 item at a time) will gain 6 skill increases.

Your opinion on categoriesEdit

I was speaking to Deyvid Petteys about this matter and he suggested to get ask an admin. Basically I am trying to get this wiki as categorised as possible and that means adding several new categories to several pages which will make finding things easier for everyone.

I am currently about to add a new categories for characters - specifically for their city of residense (Skyrim: Whiterun Residents). Deyvid mentioned that we already have a category called "Skyrim: Whiterun" - but IMO this it too general as it includes both locations and characters. I'm adding this new category so it's more specific so users can jump to a city and see all characters. I know they can do this from the Whiterun_(City) page, but it should also have it's own category. Evenutally I'll add more categories for other thing for better organisation. For example all locations in 'Whiterun Hold' etc.

I'm messaging you as I don't want to start this and then have an admin delete all the changes I make, as it will be a waste of time.

Jimeee (talk) 10:21, December 2, 2011 (UTC)

Ideally I want to deal with every city/village seperately - so it will be "Skyrim: Whiterun Characters", "Skyrim: Riverwood Characters". All the major settlements should be dealt with.

I don't think we need to specify what Hold the character is from as the city should be sufficient. However locations will be categorised into Holds, as I've started here: [[]]

The Ratway Edit

Hi, I saw that you put a tag on The Ratway to merge it with The Ratways. Perhaps you didn't notice that this is the same page? I simply moved the page, I didn't create a new one. "The Ratway" is the proper noun used for the system of tunnels in the game, they are never referred to as "The Ratways", so that's where I moved it. It can be moved back of course, I assumed it was a mistake by the creator and not a deliberate choice. ▫ JohnnyMrNinjatalk 12:04, December 2, 2011 (UTC)

Stubs Edit

I have been going through every Skyrim Npc page. The only reason it seems like i was adding alot is because i was changing {stub} to {NPC-stub}. i didn't add to many. Ive been going through them because we changed the SkyrimNPC template and the images stopped showing. Had to go through each page and fixed them. Poppaberry (talk) 21:56, December 2, 2011 (UTC)

Page VandalismEdit

Hey Timeon,

Having a bit of a problem right now with page vandalism. Specifically, the Vampirism (Skyrim) page, some anonymous contributors are really messing it up. I have the last version up on another window and can easily fix everything they've done, but am not sure how to stop them from coming right back. Any way to lock them out?

-Also, if i just copy-paste the text of the article the way it was before the damage started, will all of the links remain intact?

Problems with Category Suggestion Displays Edit

Hi Timeoin,

There is a small issue with the display of the category suggestions when attempting to add a file, image, or page to a category. I noticed this the other day and sent a message to Annonnimus. I haven't heard back so they're probably busy, but I wanted to run it by you. Here is the message: Message re: Category Suggestion Display

I figured I would let someone else know what was being experienced before the bug gets out of control or other dependencies are affected if it really was an edit in the .js files which caused the problem. I tested on a lot of other sites as well as others within * Please let me know what you find.

~Datalocust</span> Talk|Contribs|User 16:25, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

Just wanted to say that myself and another user are also having this issue. In the mean time, we can simply enter categories into an article with wikitext. I also brought up the issue to someone from Wikia Staff (no reply yet). That said, I'm also having a problem with the source editor. For some reason, the sidebar appears at the bottom of the editing window? --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 16:30, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

== Help

Dear Timeoin, we speak again ;) I tried to rename the page False Front to A False Front, because that's the full ingame name of the quest. But when i tried to rename it, it said i can't and i needed to contact an administrator. And since your on the top of that list.... :D I noticed that a really really small stub already exists under the name A False Front. On my opinion, the best thing to do is: Delete the current A False Front, and after that move the current False Front to A False Front. Do you know what i need to do/who to contact to make something like that happen? Or can you perhaps do that?

On a side note, why should i contact an administrator, are you the people that can preform such things like this?

Thanks in forward, Kennyannydenny (talk) 17:20, December 3, 2011 (UTC)

== Templates

Hi Timeoin! First of all, I'd like to complement you with the great work you've been doing on this wiki - keep it up!

Now what I'm here for: I'd like to offer my help with re-styling the wiki's infoboxes and templates (mostly color-wise) so they'll fit in better with the wiki's current theme. This will mostly involve simple color hex changes (ie. #000000), but if needed I could also partially re-code them. Also, if you still need help with setting up the pre-loads (like you asked in the Community Chat), I'd gladly do that as well. Cheers, Mark@fandom (talk) 00:11, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

== A quick proposition.

I just wanted to run a few ideas by you for when the holidays are over and my life has calmed down just enough to start contributing to The Vault and here again. A few personal projects I would like to undertake with your blessings, if you will.

- Clean-up of fan-made strategy where it is not needed. This is excluding in-depth strategy that is shared to help with the main quests or with guild quests.

- I feel it as a specialty of mine to remove any and all speculation. All speculation is good for is to clutter up pages and prevent other users from finding the true and factual information. I would especially like to start the easter eggs article from scratch and have users add a link in the talk page that shows that their reference is true and not just some figment of their imagination. I would also like permission in this case to remove speculation on the talk page to keep clutter down and to have easy access to the factual links/references.

- I also would like to be able to remove all articles for enchanted items that are not set in stone/unique to the player character. It seems to me that there are way too many pages for random enchanted items. (I might need to look into this further though to decide how big of a problem, if at all, this is at the moment).

I appreciate your time and I hope to hear from you soon. ;) Skål! (talk) 00:28, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I was being too formal. c: I've just had a lot of resistance in the past when taking ambitious projects upon myself. I felt as if I should let you know before starting! I will definitely see about setting the time around working on a few pages to add your ideas and a couple others. I would also like to see about creating a page specifically for CC commands. (I learned quickly how fast those clutter up pages during my time on The Vault also.) Thanks for the response! Let me know if there is anything else I can help out with. (The only thing I'm really not good at is the coding aspects.) Skål! (talk) 01:26, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

Just wait until the sock puppets swarm. ;) Or the clever vandals who program bots to replace every image with porn. Those always make for an interesting few hours, especially without rollback. :P I mostly wanted to let you know because I plan on blanking almost the entirety of the easter eggs page. I'll see about leaving a message in the editing format to let people know to add their speculation to the talk page first so it can be confirmed. Skål! (talk) 01:48, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

As a positive look, atleast they keep us on our toes and keep us from becoming lax! ^^ Skål! (talk) 03:39, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

== Navigation

Jgjake2 has created a script which adds an extra tab to the navigation menu depending on which pages you're looking at. For example, if you're looking at Oblivion articles, you'll see an Oblivion tab at the end of the menu, allowing you quicker access to other Oblivion related articles.

You can try out the script for yourself buy pasting this into your global.js. If you like it, we can then put it into the common.js for all the users to enjoy. Cheers :) --Anon(Talk) 20:02, December 4, 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, the script looks fine, so it should work. Maybe you just need to clear your cache? If that doesn't help, then let me know what the problem is and I'll try to figure it out. Cheers --Anon(Talk) 00:15, December 5, 2011 (UTC)

Faendal pageEdit

on the Faendal page under trivia it is a "translation" what his name means in norwegian, it is true that it means that, but im not sure it would look good. so i don't know if you want it to be there or not? ill paste it here=

In Norwegian, the word faen means f*** (expletive). Dal means valley. So his name actually means F***valley. (edit: faen = f***, crap, damn. nothing sexual. "Faen" can not translate to "p***s" either and has nothing to do with it.)

== Videos

Hey Timeoin.

You've been pretty hard to reach on the IRC, lately. I wanted to make things clear once and for all; Are videos allowed, or not?

I saw you added something to the Policies and Guidelines, which doesn't exactly seem to make sense sinse it says:

"Embedded videos may only be used in articles if they illustrate issues which cannot be expressed by written text at all or only with difficulty. Examples of acceptable videos are game trailers or a video illustrating how to find an item which is in a hard-to-find location."
"Due to concerns about quality, copyright, and featuring individual player characters, the wiki does not feature videos or video links in articles, except for officially released trailers on videos. The following restrictions concern videos throughout the entire wiki:..."
And then you added " However, it is entirely acceptable to post to an externally hosted video.", See the problem here? :P

I am personally not a fond of adding videos with walkthroughs, etc, mainly because, as it says in the Policies and Guidelines (Which I made takings bits here and there from other gaming wikis, as well as some "minor" rules I wrote myself) "Due to concerns about quality, copyright, and featuring individual player characters,". I've seen many videos people have been adding to this wiki which contain strong language, poor quality, and some that obviouisly are posted only for PR. Some people who add their on videos to the wiki don't seem interested in the Wiki as they just add their videos in the middle of an article and sizing it 500+px just for people to notice it, which quite frankly makes me mad. :P

Yet, just because I'm not a fond of videos, does not mean I'm totally against it. As long as they are added properly, contain "PEGI" content, good quality, etc, I think they can be a great addition to the Wiki. But, since none of the admins have time to "review" every single video added to the Wiki to make sure they are "OK"... I don't know...

So what is the verdict?

Location pages - need help!Edit

So as you know, i've been fixing the locations templates and adding many categories. I have now completed most of the location templates - everything from camps to wood mills. Category:Templates/Infoboxes

Every location now should have it's place and not need the default template.

Now I just need help from people to update all our existing pages that used the previous default location template to use the location specific one. I'm doing as many as I can, but it's so many. Can you maybe put a shout out to say this is one of the many thing we need help with.

Also I added a note on the loctions template page to let people know about these specific templates, but some people are still using the default - anything we can do about that. Cheers.

== Mikral Gauldurson

Dear Timeoin, in my game it says Mikral, not Mikrul. Why did you make a redirect of Mikral and not Mikrul? Kennyannydenny (talk) 17:16, December 5, 2011 (UTC)

Could you protect my talk and user page? This user has recently decided to spam them. 19:36, December 5, 2011 (UTC) GarouxBloodline

I can do that. I didn't want to step on any toes, because I saw those types of category edits reverted. I'll add them back as I see them :) --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 00:33, December 6, 2011 (UTC)

I want to know why you deleted the page I created after spending three hours on it. What's your problem?

== Questions / Clarifications

Hi there,

I've observed a few conversations and would like to get clarification so I'm on the same page as other editors (namely you and Deyvid since I see your names the most).

  1. Categories: Do you want to keep the 'generic' in addition to Skyrim-specific categories? I've removed some 'generic' edits, but I saw a chat between you fellas that Seems to indicate you want both the broad and Skyrim-specific in place. I'm happy either way.
  2. Image resolution: How high is too high? I have a 24" and a 19" monitor and a 400 x 640 image looks good on both - down to 250 x 500'ish looks okay on the larger, but anything smaller looks tiny. Anyway - that's another talk I observed so I'm curious.
  3. Image Categories: I've noticed edits coming across where the Character Image or Item Image category has been added to images I've uploaded. Is it necessary? I started updating my images, but then I started thinking that's a lot of work and could be construed as 'achievement hunting' so I want to get clarification before continuing (maybe it's something Veetor Bot can handle so there's no misunderstanding with achievements).
  4. Videos: I've seen two policies. One is that only videos that illustrate something that's difficult to put into writing and another is that external links are allowed. The Elder Dragon page has been a source of contention (mild contention) with the 'Here's how to fight 50 dragons' video.

That's it. If ever I seem to be going against the grain just pop by my Talk page - no candy coating necessary, I've got the Wiki's best interest in mind and appreciate a straightforward approach. ~ Trippet (Talk) 02:15, December 8, 2011 (UTC)

A New ProjectEdit

Hey Timeoin, Sarge here with a new project idea. I know we already have several other projects that I have been working on but I would like to make a new one. I have an idea to add a tactics section to the creatures/NPC on how to defeat them. I have already started with the Draugr Death Overlord page. Also, I wanted to know how to add categories. Thanks.
