Bruce Lowe Edit

Hi Timeoin

you deleted this page on the 9th Dec 2011: Laid to rest

due to it being a "duplicate"

Morthal links to that deleted page.

If its a duplicate you might want to correct that page which points to it

One of the links actually pointed to the wrong one, but it wasnt showing up as a link due to the fact that it was listed as an "external site" (even though it linked to our wiki) instead of the normal linking procedures. Its fixed now though :) TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 11:46, December 10, 2011 (UTC)

    • Yeah, I guess its Bruce Lowe :) (Also, as an aside - check for those "bad linkages" (i.e. talk page instead of User_talk:Loonix. Specific Articles Guidelines QuestionEdit

Hey Timeoin, I'm starting to edit and create some pages, and I'm feeling they need some kind of stardard or model page to be based upon, so the general content can look more organized. Is there any kind of model page, for each category/kind of article?

I just rewrote an article about Embershard Mine; the infobox was not a problem since the templates are all there (I used Templates: Mines in this case), but what about the headlines and topics order for the article? I read the other Mines pages, and they were mostly stubs or each one was following its own "model".

I really enjoy contributing to this kind of content, so if you can point me any guideline for specific articles I would be very gratefull. Something like: Infobox, followed by description, followed by Related Quests, Enemies, Loot (or Notable Loot?), Appearances, and so on...

Thank you very much.

WARPIGSON (talk) 00:58, December 11, 2011 (UTC)

Looking at several pages over the last few days, I have had the same thoughts. It owuld be nice to have some general layout sections for each broad category, i.e. Locations, Quests, Skills, etc. There is a Random characters template in place for use on NPCs. I think we as a group could decide on some consistent standard. Is there a page that would be good to discuss this on to allow folks to provide input? --DLanyon (talk) 03:16, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
I am going to reply here instead. Indeed, I agree that we need some massive standardization here. The Elder Scrolls Wiki:Style and formatting is available, however, it came from the OblivioWiki and needs some MASSIVE updating. Still. Its a good starting point :) TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 03:46, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
"general layout sections for each broad category, i.e. Locations, Quests, Skills, etc." That's exactly what I mean. I think a good - and simple - starting point would be taking a popular page for each category and editing it to a good standard (For example, Whiterun for cities). Then, these pages could be set as references for all other articles, which would be variations of the standard one. Thank you and keep up the good work.
WARPIGSON (talk) 10:36, December 11, 2011 (UTC)
Hi all, I just took a stab at a template for Mines pages based on the Embershard and Fellhammer mine pages. Not knowing what to do with it, it's currently saved as "randomMine" on the wikia. At least it's a starting point we can work with and tweak as needed. What do you think? GramsJ (talk) 00:13, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
  • Hi All. I just put a proposal up on my mian profile page in regards to the location page layout. Please take a look and let me know. I would also like to see a definite agreed upon layout to help improve the wiki. As I have been editing pages I visit I have tried to improve the readability of a page as well as provide pertinent information. --DLanyon (talk) 03:57, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
    I like that proposed template a lot, DLanyon. Please feel free to add that to The Elder Scrolls Wiki:Style and formatting/Locations (Which hasnt been updated yet). Thanks for this! TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 04:01, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

Hi All. I looked at DLanyon's proposed layout. There's only one item I would change. I personally think the enemies need to be dead before collecting loot, so I propose putting the "Notable Loot" section after the "Enemies" section. I have edited my proposed template (Random Mine) to more closely coincide with his (except for the one change), if you would like to take a look at it. I'm thinking this page probably needs to be deleted as a wiki page instead of a template. I didn't know how to create it as a template. Any help is appreciated. GramsJ (talk) 06:34, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

Actually, Notable Loot shouldnt refer to enemies at all, but rather, items such as Skill Books and the like that can be found in those locations. TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 06:37, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

Should the section not be limited to "Notable" Loot, then? What if we changed it to just "Loot" and have it include the "leveled loot plundered from enemies, chest, and the surroundings"? My only desire here is to work toward a consensus toward having consistent wiki pages for Skyrim Mines. :) GramsJ (talk) 07:17, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I think that it should be possibly changed to "Notable Items" or some such, as Loot would tend to include drops from enemies (rather than, say, the different ores, books, and other items that can be found in the mines and other locations TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 07:29, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
Hey all, good to see this discussion is pointing towards good results. I think these layouts are great. Personally, I think Notable Loot is more apropriated, because it goes beyond the loot enemies drop and even so it discards less usefull items (such as potatos...). Please let me know when it's decided. Thank you all. WARPIGSON (talk) 07:39, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
My thought process for not including "loot" vs. "notable loot"
  • Most items that are considered "loot" in a location are randomly generated based on a players level and will therefore vary for every player
  • Loot to me refers to anything that is "lootable", i.e. able to be obtained off of a corpse, from a shelf, chest, barrel or other container. Basicly anything that can be picked up and sold.
  • Loot therefore includes, every potion, food item, armor, weapon, misc item (e.g. embalming tool, linen wrap, bowls, etc). Again these items will be different for every player.
  • Notable Loot are items (with a few exceptions) that are static and will be the same for every player.
  • Notable loot would include: quest items, skill books, special items only found at that location, ore veins, and harvest points. (e.g. when anyone enters Halted Stream Camp they will find 15 iron ore veins.)
I have tried to edit Gloomreach to fit the proposed layout so folks can see how it would actually look. I think you have a good idea in changing notable loot to Notable items. --DLanyon (talk) 07:52, December 12, 2011 (UTC)
Quick note, Timeoin, I started the talk page on Random Mine to give us clean place to hammer out the details without having to bounce between 3 talk pages or clog yours up! --DLanyon (talk) 08:17, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

NewarticletextEdit

Lately, I've been thinking about adding a new feature to this wiki. Here's an example: [1] . Basically, how it will work is: this grid of buttons will appear at the top of the edit window every time some goes to create a new page. The grid will be divided based on each Elder Scrolls game in the rows and divided by article type (character, item, armor, spell, book) in the columns. By clicking on the button, the blank article space will be filled with the correct infobox, headers, and categories for that type of article. I think this will help us eliminate some of the manual editing we have for new pages on the wiki. Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 20:18, December 12, 2011 (UTC)

What we need to do to get the ball rolling on that is create Mediawiki:Newarticletext. I don't think I can do that with regular user rights. I think an admin or bureaucrat needs to create that page. Wikia might have it disable, though. At any rate, after that's created, we can start setting up the grid, which requires a very complex coding. I can do that part, since I've already done it before. Basically, what we'll need to do is decide exactly what types of article formats we want. Then, create templates for them and give them this name: Template:Create_article/article type/Game name. So, so we're setting up a character template for Skyrim, it would be Template:Create_article/character/Skyrim. Of course, that'll change for each game and each article type.
There was something also else I wanted to bring up when you logged on. Marriage and some other pages got vandalized pretty badly early today. I put the vandals at Vandalism in progress. Not sure if you guys still use that, but it could be handy. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 00:18, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
I'm slightly confused. You want us to mark vandals with the {{Vandalism}} template? --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 01:57, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I have a basic template set up here. I've never played Arena or Daggerfall, so I don't know which types of articles would exist. I'm also noticing that locations might be too vague, especially since we have several Skyrim templates for specific locations (i.e. Caves, Tombs, Forts etc.) I'm also thinking about shortening the names to simple "Skyrim", "Morrowind", etc. which will give us room for more buttons if necessary. After we figure out what to include, we'll need to start making the format templates. Once that's done, we can copy and paste what's in my sandbox over to Mediawiki:Newarticletext and the buttons should automatically insert the formatting into a new article. Theoretically. :)--— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 02:19, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
Got it. Loud and clear now. In regards to the template, you or another admin will have to edit it into the Mediawiki page. I guess they don't trust regular users with that type of privilege :). At any rate, before it'll work, we'll need to have format templates set up (like this one for character pages: Template:Create article/character/Skyrim that matches what we all agree is the standard for each page. After those templates are created, it'll be all ready to use. --— Radical D (bother \ stalk) 03:56, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Tim. What is the wikia policy regarding quoting books found in The Elder Scrolls? Is it permissible to include the entire contents of a book on a wiki page? I ask because I was going to create a page for The Real Baranziah, v 2, only to find out that one did exist at one point and has since been deleted. I have the entire text prepared but thought I better ask before I create another page for it. Thanks. GramsJ (talk) 04:00, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Categories Fixed. Need a little help from your end Edit

I just updated the popup script to fix the categories problem.

But there is another problem I noticed the other day. When you copied the menu script to the common.js you accidentally copied too much from my global.js. You added some functions I made for myself that make the edit preview popup wider (it made it easier to edit the maps). But this will cause some problems for normal users when editing; things will not look the way they will appear when saved. Do you think you can remove it from the common.js? Here is what i'm talking about:

$(document).bind('DOMSubtreeModified',function(){
  //console.log("now there are " + $('a').length + " links on this page.");
var editPageDialog = document.getElementById('EditPageDialog');
if(editPageDialog){
editPageDialog.style.width = "850px";

var editPageDialog_h1 = editPageDialog.getElementsByTagName("h1")[0];
editPageDialog_h1.style.marginTop = "0px";
editPageDialog_h1.style.marginBottom = "0px";

var previewDiv = getElementsByClass2(editPageDialog, 'div', 'ArticlePreview');
//var currentHeight = previewDiv.css('height').replace("px", "");
var currentHeight = getStyle(previewDiv, 'height');
var newHeight = cssPxValueText(currentHeight) + 200;
alert('currentHeight: "' + currentHeight + '"   newHeight: "' + newHeight + '"');
previewDiv.style.height = newHeight + 'px';
}
})

	function getElementsByClass2(elementName, tagname, tclass){
		var itemsfound = new Array();
		var elements = elementName.getElementsByTagName(tagname);
		for(var i=0;i<elements.length;i++){
			if(hasClass(elements[i], tclass)){
				itemsfound.push(elements[i]);
			}
		}
		return itemsfound;
	}

function getStyle(el,styleProp)
{
	var x = document.getElementById(el);
	if (x.currentStyle)
		var y = x.currentStyle[styleProp];
	else if (window.getComputedStyle)
		var y = document.defaultView.getComputedStyle(x,null).getPropertyValue(styleProp);
	return y;
}
function ConvertCssPxToInt(cssPxValueText) {

	// Set valid characters for numeric number.
	var validChars = "0123456789.";

	// If conversion fails return 0.
	var convertedValue = 0;

	// Loop all characters of
	for (i = 0; i < cssPxValueText.length; i++) {

		// Stop search for valid numeric characters, when a none numeric number is found.
		if (validChars.indexOf(cssPxValueText.charAt(i)) == -1) {

			// Start conversion if at least one character is valid.
			if (i > 0) {
				// Convert validnumbers to int and return result.
				convertedValue = parseInt(cssPxValueText.substring(0, i));
				return convertedValue;
			}
		}
	}

	return convertedValue;
}

Thanks,

Location Template updates Edit

I have just went through all of the location templates and made an update to all of them. They now all come with a header sentence "PAGENAME" is a (locationtype) located in Skyrim." This will help ensure uniformity of location pages. The /dco page should now be in place for all of them.

Also, Template:Skyrim Tomb needed fixing, I updated it to bring it inline with the rest of the templates, unfortunately this means it will take some time to update all the tombs pages to accept the corrected format. DLanyon (talk) 14:37, December 13, 2011 (UTC)

Blog post problem:Edit

Hi, I have a problem, and I wondered if you'd be able to help me with it (since you seem to be the most active person around here). Anyway, when I try to make a blog, It simply doesn't let me edit the page and I'm stuck with this message: "Create a new blog post - The Elder Scrolls Wiki" which doesn't go away.

If you know what causes this, or even better, how to solve it, than I'd appreciate that.

Thanks for the quick reply (you talked about a delay, but still you answered within a few hours, couldn't read it myself until now though) but unfortunately the problem persists. I've added a picture of it this time. I know I should be just pressing that 'ok button in the pop-up message, but I can click on it all I want, it doesn't change anything. :\ Did also have the problem when using another computer. Edit: also can't use 'ok' button when trying to change gender, occupation and place of living. Suppose that's where the problem is then.

I have the same problem as well, and not only with the blog post page. For me none of the image pop-ups will go away when I hit ok or the x in the upper right hand corner. On top of all of this, whenever someone edits a page with my signature on it, the main link to my profile page goes back to it's original blue link color when it's supposed to be cyan. ╚╦ Θάνατος ╦╝ 02:16, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Clean up/project proposal Edit

This wiki needs some MAJOR work as of now, there's a lot of confusion and such.

There are pages on items from skyrim that have almost zero links going to them, even where there should be.

I left a message on the talk page of the front page about this, is there a way you could formalize and make it into a project proposal so that it get's done? Jabberwockxeno (talk) 19:04, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

Ive put it on the The Elder Scrolls Wiki:Skyrim Task List page for you. TimeoinSay G'DayView my workSkyrim To-Do List 23:14, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. Addtionally, I think a more formal project/policy proposal is in order for how articles are made in terms of the different games.

As of now, most things are organized so that article that is titled just the subject is a disambugation page, and then there are articles that are titled "[subject] ([game name])".

It would be far better to have just on article per subject, and have sections in the article for how it is in each game, this way there is less confusion about the content in a page, and purely lore/canonical content can be present as well, without being scattered across many pages depending on the game.

Where can I make a formal project/policy proposal here? This wiki doesn't have normal fourms, so.... Jabberwockxeno (talk) 19:08, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Last week I started working on some of the weapons pages. I had a plan for the organization that included the general Weapons (Skyrim) page containing links to each weapon type, where the table containing the weapon stats would be located. The weapon names in the table would link to the individual weapon, along with any story that might be included with it. It sounds like others would prefer a different orgainization. All I need to know is what the consensus is, and I will take it on. GramsJ (talk) 22:36, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Addtionally, can you make a page titled "Farmer (Skryim)" (assuming the above suggestion is not yet or is not used)?

I'd do it, but i'm not great at formatting new pages, only ones that have the basic stuff already in.

I think such a page should be made since one can call thugs on you, bring cattle to gaint camps, I even met one that said they were going to join the stormcloaks, but I got bored and stopped following him before he got to his destionation, so I don't know if anything actually happens. 69.132.69.87 21:36, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Hey there. I noticed you edited the Dragonborn page recently, so I figure you're as good a person as any to mention this to. Basically, the page is currently named Dragonborn (Character) because The Dragonborn Comes was originally named Dragonborn (book), and Dragonborn itself was a disambig. As Dragonborn (book) no longer exists, the disambig page can be deleted & Dragonborn (Character) can be renamed to just Dragonborn. I would do this myself, but I can't delete the redirect & it's not letting me rename Dragonborn (Character) over it. Thank you! Knives182 (talk) 06:05, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

Speedy delete notice is up. Knives182 (talk) 06:25, December 24, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks man...considering you did this on Christmas, I wouldn't worry too much about the delay. Happy holidays! Knives182 (talk) 20:31, December 25, 2011 (UTC)

ahhhh ok, I figured as much. i was just afraid that it would impposible to edit it, or that i would need to send info to a admin or some important person. as for telling you the info, i would but right now its a little hard to explain the location because my map is weird, and i need to figure out a nice easy way to summarize what i found, but im sure im not the only one who found this. anyway, i think i will wait out this time period that stops me from editing it.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Since if completed the Quest were you have to escape of signa mine.

All of the quards say that i have to go to the prison (signa mine) when i choose that option ther pops up an option What the matter? then the whole story begins again when i press B (xbox) when it says whats the matter i can walk away but the guards follow me and keep asking that question now i can go in Markoth whitout a bounty on my head . I cant even talk with people because the quards will interrupt.

I hope someone can help me or that Skyrim fixes this.

Concept art Edit

Hi Timeoin, you probably don't remember me but I know you from the Assassin's Creed IRC. Anyways, I remember hearing you are the admin here so I thought I'd pass on this information that I found while search for AC concept art work. I hope this concept art is useful and from my experience this website is excellent for finding original artwork for most game series even those that were not released. Anyways, here is the link to the concept art and I hope it is useful. Link Here. Kaloneous 02:32, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

First time page creation. Edit

Hey, I created my first page and was wanting to know what you think of it. Like anything else I need to add and all. The page is Dwemer Cup. I am still getting a handle on page layout and this is my first attempt at this. Thanks! GrandMoffVixen (talk) 17:12, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

While I am thinking of it, I am taking it upon myself to standardize the layout of each individual artifact for Dwemer Artifacts. I have done Dwemer Bowl, Dwemer Dish and Dwemer Scrap Metal. What do you think? GrandMoffVixen (talk) 17:17, December 26, 2011 (UTC)

Vandal found Edit

Hail Timeoin,

Found a low level vandal, 83.240.103.165. Created quite a mess of the bugs section on the Hjerim page. I tried to use the undo feature, but the majority of this culprits antics were done on its first pass over the page and its second pass caused a conflict that the simple undo would not work. I pull an ealry version up and did a side by side manual fix, no problem, found a couple of spots needed cleaning ontop of the fix. My suggestion is to tie this vandal to a pole and leave him slowly roasting over a nice fire just outside of Dragontooth Crater for the Dragon to snack on! Trouble Leaving Messages or EditingEdit

Hi Tim. I have a friend who is helping me edit some of the wiki pages. He is having difficulty getting the editing toolbar when he selects "Edit" or "Leave Message." Could you (or someone) check on what the trouble might be? His username is forgreatsource. Thank you, GramsJ (talk) 01:36, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

He tried his talk page, my talk page, and other random pages. There's no edit toolbar, and he can't input any text whatsoever. He said he didn't have any editing tools whatsoever. It was just with the current skin, cuz when he changed to the older wiki style, he was finally able to access an editing menu when he tried to go into edit mode. Thanks GramsJ (talk) 03:36, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Vandal Edit

Azura's Star Split Edit

Hey, I noticed you suggested the Azura's Star page be split—I'm assuming into Morrowind, Oblivion, & Skyrim pages. Is this standard practice when something appears in multiple games, or is there some criteria a page must meet for a split? Thanks for enlightening me. Knives182 (talk) 05:05, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

thanks Edit

ahhhhh ok, yea i just assumed because the content was weird with that one word. thanks tho, now i can mark any bad pages. Seth168 (talk) 05:07, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Hello, dear person with colored name.

I am sort of a newby here. Been doing minor fixes here and there and mostly looking at random articles. I stumbled upon this: Aivarstead. It is clearly a typo. And a detailed page on the same location already exists: Ivarstead. Please remove it.

Thank you for you time.

Repoting a vandalEdit

User: Dragonborn007. I undid the change.

Irrelevant PhotosEdit

User Ronlaw is adding tons of non-elder scroll photos. Is that allowed?

Vandal Report Edit

Hail, Found another Draugr wannabe using 24.3.161.20 on the Quests (Skyrim) page, I undid his edit. Although in the abstract he may have thought his comment was funny, an arrow to the knee is not a laughing matter. You end up in a dead end job as a city/town guard. Neguy71inok (talk) 18:53, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

Found another Vandal 76.113.78.12 also using crude vulgar language. Reverted his changes. Neguy71inok (talk) 00:48, December 29, 2011 (UTC)

New approach on staves from Skyrim. Edit

I would like your insight on the approach on tackling the staves in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I found a page somewhere that lists a lot of staves, but is very messy and quite incomplete. I can't manage to find the same page again, but it had an incomplete table with names and ID's. Staves currently are not listed as weapons on the Weapons (Skyrim) page. But I think staves DO count as weapons. They are even listed as weapons in the game itself. Plus the staves fit very well in Template:SkyrimWeapons, I already did a few pages with the template and I think it works quite well. E.g. User:Flightmare/sandbox/Dragon Priest Staff. As of now, the staves feel very incomplete to me. Not all of them are listed yet in here, but maybe this is due to the lack of a proper parent section. I'd like to improve this where possible. What are your thoughts? ~ Flightmare (talk) 17:44, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

Hey dude, good job on all of the contributions so far, you're awesome :D

Wedding Interruption Edit

Hello there Timeoin! I hope you are having a nice day!!!

I have recently discovered a bug involving a dead body (in some cases, Lydia's) interrupting a wedding. I would love to inform the masses of Skyrim fans that this exists, but unfortunately, the bugs section of Marriage is blocked! If you could get back to me about this at bryndendavies@gmail.com , that would be outstanding!

Happy New Year

Howdy and G'Day! Edit

Morning, you are up early or late or something like that! Went back to do some cleaning on Skill Book page and saw you left a note on that guys page also. :) I was following it for a moment then decided to just wait a bit and go back and clean it up. Oh well, you need the edits more than me, or else Deyvid Petteys is going to pass you up! Neguy71inok (talk) 04:49, January 2, 2012 (UTC)
