Ned1230

Hi Zipper. I saw your message on Ned1230's talk page about him deleting his talk page messages, and I just wanted to tell you that he is in fact moving them straight into his archive. Doing what he is doing is albeit a bit weird, but he is allowed to do it. > Flugsmith ~ talk // contributions ~ 18:52, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

Actually, he is not literally allowed to do it. Messages should remain on one's wall until they reach the amount of forty, which is considered suitable for archiving. —Sky Above,Voice Within · Show thy Voice! 18:56, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

ESO Question

Quick question: are we now allowed to talk about what we've learned from the Beta (i.e starting areas and similar beginning content), or is it still considered verbotten? Cause I've watched a lot of you videos from ShoddyCast and AngryJoeShow and learned some interesting things that I'm sure will interest and likely anger the Wiki. DRAEVAN13 16:58, February 16, 2014 (UTC)

Well, I learned a fact that's probably going to make a LOT of Elder Scrolls fans stop playing early in the game: you know how in the single-player titles once you were done the tutorial, the entire world opens up and you can go and do whatever you please? Not so in ESO. Once you escape Coldharbour, you go to an in-escapable starting island which you can only leave after about an hour of questing (if you only focus on the main quest). You'd think after that'd you'd be done, right? All MMOs have such a starting island/area, so one is understandable. Nope. After you escape the first starting island, you have A SECOND inescapable starting island, one which requires two-three hours of questing to escape. Only after that do you have the freedom to go do whatever you want like in the single-player titles.
Also, the Dominion seems to have an advantage over the other 2 factions which might imbalance the factions. Their starting islands are apparently smaller and more compact, allowing players to level up much faster than Covenant or Pact players.
Though the PvP apparently makes up for a lot of flaws with some EPIC sieges. You should go watch Angry Joe's PvP review, it looks amazing. DRAEVAN13 17:21, February 16, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Incorrect page name

Hi Zipper, you can rename the page yourself. Under the edit button you'll find rename and as it only links to that book Notebook of Helfar Ice-Mane and my page, change the link so you don't need to add a redirect. And Zipper, when italicizing the text just use and at the beginning and the end of the text. :) —EbonySkyrim Message! 07:18, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Books and Threads

I've read the books, and nowhere does it say that the Empire is a dictatorship with no freedom of expression. As to the floating city with chefs, that's not a city in Skyrim, it's a city from Clavicus Vile's realm of Oblivion. Have you read them?

As for the threads, I've tried on Chrome, Firefox and Explorer and it does the same on all of them. F5 doesn't seem to fix it. DRAEVAN13 21:18, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

I may have been wrong about that. I re-read the book last week and it's never mentioned why Agent Colin kills the man at the beginning of the novel. Also, what do you mean by "Or that there's so city floating in the Skyrim with chefs in it?" Because... that sentence doesn't make sense :P I have a PC, both at work and at home, so no Safari for me. It seems that the threads "reset" when the computer's turned off then back on, so I can still read the threads, it's just a bit of a pain. DRAEVAN13 21:31, February 17, 2014 (UTC)
Also, I would suggest you read the books before you make a blog saying they aren't cannon. You can find them online, I'm sure, both free and payable. DRAEVAN13 21:32, February 17, 2014 (UTC)
I'd suggest that. Plus, they're pretty good books. I know for a fact Infernal City is available on Google Books. Not sure about Lord of Souls, though. DRAEVAN13 21:55, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

Bow (Online)

Hey, Zipper, I just wanted to let you know that removing words that do not need to be essentially removed is considered badgehunting by most, and I am saying this out of personal experience. Removing single words, such as 'line' from articles are not regarded as productive edits. Ned Tp- Contribs00:18, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Zipper, please just take my advice on editing pages like that. It makes people feel stupid when it's not needed, and the sentence was just fine before you did that. I've been scolded by such users as Flugsmith for the for the type of edit you did. Also, part of being a good editor, as I've been told by my dad, who's a professional editor, after my conflicts with everyone, is only fixing mistakes, such as grammar, yet still make people feel like they wrote it. It's always good to keep good relations with everybody; so far it's put me in the dump.Ned Tp- Contribs01:32, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Actually, the word 'line' does belong there, as there are numerous sub-skills associated with it. Just look at most of the other pages for skills in TESO and you'll see same thing because, quite simply, it makes sense. - Erik the Mad (talk) 16:40, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Re: About the Forum...

Hi,

I do agree for your opposition on my re-evaluation, though. I have been inactive for a while, whether it be six months or three. The only thing that bothered me was that you stretched the number a bit more than I found fair. I don't plan on coming back soon, however, so I don't expect you to change your vote.

Thank you for the apology :) Kroq-gar78 (talk) 04:04, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

I think such a process for patrollers is described here. Though it is not on the TES:A page, I have always assumed that a similar (if not exactly alike) process would apply for admins requesting to be marked as active again. Kroq-gar78 (talk) 04:12, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Royalty category

Zipper, are you adding the Royalty category to Jarls because of the Elisif article? She is considered royalty because she is the High King's widow. The other Jarls don't fit. —Sky Above,Voice Within · Show thy Voice! 21:48, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Well, were great lords in the medieval times considered royal? The Jarls don't have that much people under their rule, so I don't think they should be regarded as royalty. —Sky Above,Voice Within · Show thy Voice! 21:56, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
I agree with Sky, Zipper. Jarls aren't Royalty. Lords today are not considered Royalty in England. > Flugsmith ~ talk // contributions ~ 21:58, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
The great families in GoT aren't royalty either. Only the King and his family are considered royal, both in the show and the books. —Sky Above,Voice Within · Show thy Voice! 22:02, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I won't do it anymore. I don't know why Jarls being considered Royalty is so Taboo though. But I don't want to fight against every editor just to put that category there, so consider this done. :) I am Sylar (talk) 22:04, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the others have explained exactly why it was removed. I was leaving work and didnt have time to talkpage you. In any case, it clear the Jarls and their families are in no way royalty. At best they are Aristocracy. I cleaned out the Royalty categoty a while back because it was full of junk. Technically it should only contain lore characters. Also, i'll ask you to next time wait for a response before reverting my edits - I reverted your edits for a good reason, and yes I probably should have talkpaged you, but always assume good faith. Also I suggest you look over our guidelines again before adding and additional categories to pages.Jimeee (talk) 23:58, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Mod Wiki Bid

I would LOVE that. Zipper. I love the Mods wiki and I don't want to see it die like other Wikis. Also the Zombie Headquaters Wiki is in a right old state. Description section not part of Location standard

Zipper, I noticed you added a Description section to Mzinchaleft. The problem is that the Location article standard (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Wiki:Style_and_formatting/Locations) does not have a Description section. It shows that any descriptive information needs to just go in the article lead (like it was before). Can you undo that, or do you want me to? Cubears (talk) 17:32, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Same thing for the Role sectionm you just added to Farkas. There isn't one in the standrd, so it should just be part of the lead. Cubears (talk) 17:35, February 22, 2014 (UTC)
Zipper, he is right. We don't use Description as a header and in the article about Mzinchaleft, the lead is perfectly fine. As for the section you added on Farkas, the reason he gives is also true. :) —EbonySkyrim Message! 20:55, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Forum

First of all: why are you drudging up ancient history? I do not appreciate flame-baiting, and randomly coming to me with a comment I made, what, nearly a year ago? That constitutes as flame-baiting.

Second of all: I never once said narcissistic idiot. If you are going to berate me, at least get your facts straight. I am sorry about saying idiot, but I am not sorry about saying narcissist, as that was merely an observation and a correct one at that.

In conclusion: I am partially sorry for saying idiot, because while I still stand by saying that, I understand that it did not contribute anything to the discussion. But I am most certainly not sorry for saying narcissist, and I most certainly do not appreciate you reviving posts I made around a year ago just so you can get your jollies in. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:58, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

I also have to question your vested interests in this matter. I am not stupid: I can clearly see that you are berating me over one of your personal blogs that I made responses within. So here is what I am seeing: you did not like what I had to say back in May of 2013. My comments end up lingering in the back of your mind, and now that you are a forum moderator, you feel you finally have the power to lash back at me even though it has nearly been a year.

Care to explain yourself? It is has been nearly a year since I made those posts, you are personally involved in this matter since it is your blog, and I am the only one you have singled out even though you, yourself have insulted numerous people in your own blogs before you became a forum moderator, and even though I am not the only one to have called you an idiot just in that one blog alone.

If I rubbed you the wrong way - fine. But do not think that just because you are now a forum moderator, that you are going to steamroll me nearly a year later. I will tell you now that I will refrain from ad hominem in the future. But just remember that I am not stupid and I know what is going on here. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:07, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Like I said; I will refrain from ad hominem in the future. As for why I am partially sorry, it is not because we had differing opinions, but because you vehemently lied to me and acted like prior debates/arguments never happened when we ended up on different sides through other posts. This is also why I called you a narcissist.

Anyways, I have no problem with being called out, especially if I happen to break any guidelines/policies. But, again, I must reiterate on the fact that I do not appreciate you reviving posts of mine that are nearly a year old. If I had done something like post porn without anyone noticing, then yeah, I definitely need to be called out even if it did go unnoticed for nearly a year. But why invite drama but going out of your way to zombify a insignificant post from nearly a year ago? It shows you are unable to let go, even though everyone else has let it slip into the obscure past. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:53, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Zippertrain85, this was absolutely uncalled for. If you had a problem in May 2013 then you bring it to the attention of an admin then - you don't talkpage the person citing wiki policy almost a year later. If there is a personal attack the admins will deal with it - if you read Gaoux's talkpage, you will see I and the other admins have no problem in speaking with him about issues. Jimeee (talk) 11:55, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
This is not about procedure - if this happened last week we would not be having this coversation. It's the fact that you brought up something that was completely dead and restarted an argument over it. It was uncalled for. If you didn't report him at the time that's your own fault - and if you did an admin could have dealt with it. He is not "acting like a jerk" on your talk page - he is actually admitting he was wrong to use insults. As a forum mod, you should be dealing with things that happen now, not last year. Re: Mods wiki

I don't know if you were responding to me with your last message on Alduin's talk page or not, but, the only reason Wolfishtail made me admin of TES Mods Wiki when I joined was because he needed some back-end wiki help and some start-up help (organization, templates, categories). I probably won't contribute in any way other than helping with maintenance and the more technical wiki stuff. I set up the Community Message on the Mods wiki as a starting point of how one could organize and categorize pages. Since the Mods wiki is a sister of TES Wiki, it should use similar, if not the same type of editing guideline practices. Since all wikis are essentially a community project, it's up to the community to come together to build up these pages. If you or Alduin do manage to get in contact with Wolfishtail and if he grants you both admin rights, then that's great. I've got my hands full with TES Wiki, so having 2 other dedicated admins to the Mods wiki would be a good thing. —TombRaiser SPEAK! 23:41, February 24, 2014 (UTC)

I was sort of talking to him, but since you are an Admin on the Mods Wiki, I would like to hear your opinion on it. Alduin is currently trying to contact Wikia in order to get the Wiki from Wolfishtail, since he was gone for a little over a month, but just recently left a comment (14/2/9), but since then hasn't done a thing. Hopefully Wikia can make an exception, but we might have to wait, if they say no. What would be even better than Admin rights would be Bureaucrat rights, since if we're going to take control of the Wiki, the ability to change user rights would be extremely helpful, especially so we don't have to get in situations like this again. XD I am Sylar (talk) 00:54, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, can't be in chat right now. I read over the adoption request that Alduin already made on Community Central, and it looks like they won't accept the adoption request right now (as I figured would happen) since there are admins active, even if it's not very active. The only other suggestion I have would be to create a blog on the Mods wiki appealing to the community of the need for the wiki to be adopted. You and Alduin are the ones that want to take over the leadership of the wiki, so you should state reasons why it should be the two of you and what you have currently done around the wiki that would make the two of you the most qualified to take that role.
After that blog is created and you've gotten a general consensus by the Mods wiki community (and 7 days has passed), then a new adoption request will need to be made on Community Central. Wikia staff will then decide whether they will promote you (or both) to bureaucrat or admin based on the responses of current members or they might base it on the activity of the founder and other admins. If they want to say that I have just recently posted as to say I am an active admin there, I will deny being an "active admin", as I my recent edits were to only remove pieces of information from my userpage and personal wikia.css page. —TombRaiser SPEAK! 22:50, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

Screenshots

Zipper, have you got Steam? If so, you'll find the screenshots in a folder in the userdata folder. There you can look through them to find them but there are a few subfolders to look through. But the easiest is when you have taken screens and close the game, Steam pops up a window with the latest screens you took and there you can click on one of the buttons to access the screenshots on your computer. When there, create a shortcut for it on your desktop for easy access. —EbonySkyrim Message! 07:21, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

Just to add to that…when I take screenshots to use on the wiki I don't use the default option that Steam uses, which is using F12 to take screenshots. I don't use it because they store all screenshots in JPG format instead on the preferred PNG format. Only time I really use F12 is if I want to upload screenshots to my personal library on Steam.
You can find the default folder at: \Steam\userdata\10289206\760\remote\72850\screenshots (something like that)
If you want to use the screenshot option that some of the others use for Skyrim images, you have to edit the Skyrim.ini file (always make a backup first), so that it allows you to use PrintScrn to take and store images in the BMP format. The .ini file is located by default here: Users/(username)/My Documents/My Games/Skyrim. Open the file and search for the line bAllowscreenshot and set it to 1 instead of 0. Then save it.
You should now be able to take screenshots using PrintScrn that will save in BMP format, but before uploading the images to the wiki you will have to save the file as PNG using photo editing software such as GIMP, Paint, PaintShop Pro, or Photoshop. Seems like more work, but the image will be far superior than that of JPG quality.
The screenshots that you take using PrintScrn will be stored here (or similar): C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\
If I confused your more than helped, take a look here: http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Take-Screenshots-in-Skyrim :) —TombRaiser SPEAK! 07:28, February 26, 2014 (UTC)

When you have Steam up, if you have taken a screen with F12 there should be screens showing at the bottom. Under it, "View screenshot library". Have you got that? —EbonySkyrim Message! 21:22, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
Another thought, go into options in the game and see what keys are active. Maybe you have by misstake moved take screenshot to another key. I have done that, by misstake when I looked changed what keys to use. —EbonySkyrim Message! 08:18, February 28, 2014 (UTC)

Ummm, what? I thought you were aware of this rule, since you made the 'Removal of "No Game Reference" rule' thread. Now you are telling me you can't find this rule? It doesn't make sense. The rule was discussed a while ago here, and it probably wasn't added to the policies page like it should've been.
Balagog gro-Nolob (The Gourmet is listening) 07:32, March 9, 2014 (UTC)
I didn't see any discussion of removing the rule, I know I've missed some stuff though. Still doesn't explain why you made that thread if you think the rule is no longer active. If it is not enforced on almost every single page, then why didn't you mention that on the thread?

Leads and categories

Looking at your recent activity, there are two thing that need to be cleared up:

 • Leads: The main idea that was put forward from the discussion we all had last year was the game link was never to be used in Character pages. The reason for this was because people were writing terrible leads like "Alvor is a Nord in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Leads should be customized for every page. The only place the game-name is okay is quest and item pages - meaning weapon, armor pieces etc. However, there are some item pages that omit the game-name - in that case it name be a change is needed on the template and not the page - but check with an admin before making this change.
 • The Stormcloaks category you have added on the camps is wrong and will need to be reverted. The purpose of the category is not to lump everything to do with Stormcloaks into there. It exists as a parent category for the Stormcloak members, quests and camp categories. The categories you added are redundant. I have spoken to you before about problems with categories. In future, I strongly suggest checking with an admin before making large category edits like this, because this is creating more work for everyone. Jimeee (talk) 10:40, March 10, 2014 (UTC)
