Warlord Gathrik wields either a ebony war axe with an iron shield or a ebony battleaxe. In any case the player should be cautious because he deals a devastating amount of melee damage, unless the player has a high armor rating (around 400 or more). It is not recommend to go toe-to-toe with him. Warlord Gathrik has two shouts at his disposal which he will use against the player; the Frost Breath and the Disarm Shout. His health is also remarkably high, close to or higher than dragon priests. His combat style is very straight forward going constantly after the player. He is also slightly faster than the usual Draugr (most likely due to his size, see "Stats affected by character size" under Classes (Skyrim) ).

*Fighters/Spellswords may utilize weapons with 'Absorb Stamina' or 'Damage Stamina' to tire him quickly, as it is more likely for you to empty his stamina before his health reaches zero, also recommended are fire enchanted weapons since draugr are weak against fire in general. Additionally spellswords may use Frost Cloak too, to have him unable to retaliate. You should also keep in mind to have a good armor rating and/or health pool.

Warlord Gathrik is located in Ironbind Barrow. He is the 'boss' Draugr in this dungeon.

Warlord Gathrik wields either an ebony war axe with an iron shield or an ebony battleaxe. In any case the player should be cautious because he deals a devastating amount of melee damage unless the player has a high armor rating (around 400 or more). It is not recommended to go toe-to-toe with him. Warlord Gathrik has two shouts at his disposal which he will use against the player; the Frost Breath Shout and the Disarm Shout. His health is also remarkably high, close to or higher than that of dragon priests. His combat style is very straight forward going constantly after the player. He is also slightly faster than the usual Draugr (most likely due to his size, see "Stats affected by character size" under Classes ).

Gathrik's appearance may vary between the "less armored" draugr type and the "armored" type. He is noticably taller than normal Draugr Deathlords, with his damage and large health pool making him a real juggernaut.

Strategies

  • Mages or non-armor characters will want to keep their distance since Gathrik deals considerable of damage, circling him or 'kiting' him while casting destruction spells on him. Summoned Atronachs temporarily help distract him. If you feel brave you can circle around him with a Frost Cloak spell on yourself, which will drain his stamina very quickly until he falls tired to the ground, giving you no problems at all.
  • Fighters/Spellswords may utilize weapons with 'Absorb Stamina' or 'Damage Stamina' to tire him quickly, as it is more likely for you to empty his stamina before his health reaches zero, also recommended are fire enchanted weapons since draugr are weak against fire in general. Additionally spellswords may use Frost Cloak too, to have him unable to retaliate. You should also keep in mind to have a good armor rating and/or health pool.
  • Archers may want to use the hit-&-run tactic against him, using enchanted arrows for extra damage.
  • You can always use Unrelenting Force to stagger him, in case he gets too close or the situation gets out of hand.
  • The Slow Time shout can give you extra breathing time but only temporary, and be warned since the Slow time recharge is long, it will take a while until the next shout so stack up on potions or just continue keeping your distance. The Become Ethereal shout can also help you gain distance away from him.
