The Wilderking (or sometimes The Wilderqueen) is the god worshiped by the Bosmer tribes of Greenshade, Valenwood. He is both a political figure and a god and as such the tribes of Greenshade answer to them instead of the Camoran King of Elden Root.[1] He is often very selective of whom he appears to, which is the main cause of people doubting his existence.
Domain[]
The Wilderking's domain is known as the Wilderking Court and controls the southeastern part of Greenshade. His physical manifestation lives at the throne of the wilderking located above the city of Greenheart.
History[]
The Wilderking or queen is always mantled by a mortal. The mortal can be of any race, but is most commonly an Altmer or Bosmer. The mortal must be born with a powerful control over nature, and will be brought to the Wilderking's Court by the order of fate. Once mantled, the previous mortal dies and the newly mantled mortal loses all memories of their life.
It is unknown exactly when the Wilderking appeared in Valenwood, but they were known to have been active there since at least the First Era having mantled many people. Some time prior to 1E 2920, the Wilderking made a deal with the Bosmer village of the Shrouded Vale where they would be sent to an Aetherial paradise in exchange for someone to be used as caretaker for The Fading Tree.[2]
During The Elder Scrolls Online, the Wilderking currently mantles an Altmer male named Ostion. The Aldmeri Dominion is working on friendly negotiations with the Wilderking. As the storyline progresses, it is revealed that the Veiled Heritance was working on a plot to kill the Wilderking and that one of their members, Aranias, was destined to be the new vessel of the Wilderking. Aranias then realizes her position from the help of the Vestige and is mantled, becoming the new Wilderqueen.[3]
Powers and abilities[]
The Wilderking has almost complete divine power over nature and as such controls the balance between nature and its creatures.[4] This can be seen by his control over Lurchers at his court which are used to guard him.

When first being granted an audience: "Welcome to my Court, outsider. Since you entered my domain, I have watched your actions with a keen interest. You have been generous with my people and more patient than I expected. But I still cannot gather one thing—why have you come?"
After defeating the apparition of Advisor Norion: "I sensed the darkness in the heart of the one you fought, but he has already been defeated, has he not? And those like him ... they may not all share his darkness. You should have me call these people enemies, though?"
When speaking with him again before watching the memory: "Look for the truth behind the appearances in her memory. She is a very special young lady." After watching Aranias's memory: "As you've just seen, the young girl—Aranias—is associated with the Veiled Heritance. Until I know more about her, I hesitate to call her an enemy. I will have more insight soon though. Even now, Aranias is on her way to my throne."

"Like the branches of a Graht Oak, I believe that Aranias' destiny, my destiny, and your destiny are all intertwined. I cannot yet see how these events will play out, but I do know that like Aranias, you must come deeper into the forest."

When first arriving at Greenheart:
"It's good you're here. With earth magic and fire, Aranias and Andur force their way towards my throne, leaving chaos in their wake. I've lost control of my guardians. My power fades. I've always wondered what death would be like. Soon, I will know."
After following the flames: "Quickly. Aranias waivers. She knows now why she was guided here—not to destroy the Valenwood, but to save it. She wants to change course, but she's afraid. She's afraid to stand up to Andur."
After slaying Andur: "Aranias was guided here to take my place, but I believe you were guided here to assure her ascension. If you had not come, I fear Andur would have killed us both, leaving the Valenwood wild and vengeful. Many lives would have been lost."
