Main article: Armor (Morrowind)
"This is Wraithguard, an enchanted device created ages ago by my former master, High Craftlord Kagrenac, a long-dead Dwemer mage-smith. I believe it is one of the tools he created to forge mythopoeic enchantments."
Yagrum Bagarn[src]

Wraithguard is a unique heavy gauntlet in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It is an immensely powerful Dwemer artifact, and one of the profane tools of Kagrenac. It is considered to be one of the best armor pieces of the game.

Background

According to historical texts, the use of Wraithguard and the other tools in a specific, and mostly unknown, ritual allows one to connect themselves to the Heart of Lorkhan and gain godly powers (as was done by the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur). It is heavily suggested that this played an important role in the Disappearance of the Dwarves.

Acquisition

Wraithguard can be obtained from Vivec, either as a gift during the Hortator and Nerevarine quest or by slaughtering him. If taken by force, it needs to be activated by Yagrum Bagarn, who requires Kagrenac's Journal and Planbook to do so. Upon equipping this "jury rig" version it backfires, inflicting between points of 201 to 225 damage.

Usefulness

This gauntlet is needed to wield both Keening and Sunder. Without Wraithguard, there is nothing to shield the user from their unnatural power, and they will cause a very quick death. Even without the use of the other profane artifacts, the gauntlet is an impressive piece of equipment, offering a high armor bonus and a variety of enchantments.

Trivia

  • The 50% Resist Blight Disease enchantment is superfluous since the Nerevarine becomes immune to all forms of disease long before Wraithguard becomes obtainable.
  • The jury-rigged Wraithguard will cause a permanent health decrease in most versions of Morrowind, rather than the temporary drain as was intended.
